      • To see direct results from one's personal effort
      • Achievements don’t have to be enormous to be satisfying
      Achievement can be felt simply by evoking a positive reaction from someone who be being helped

      • Volunteers value personal words of encouragement and gratitude
      • The simple act of active LISTENING shows that you care about them

    7. Personal Growth
      • To discover new skills and capabilities
      • To learn more about oneself
      • To learn about others
      • To overcome personal challenges
      • Volunteers discover self-esteem and confidence with each new challenge tackled and skill learned
      • Life develops more intensity, more color, as volunteers are exposed to new experiences that would not ordinarily have come their way
