Driver Development for applications of networking services for a WAVE based device

  1. 1. DRIVER DEVELOPMENT FOR IEEE 802.11P & IMPLEMENTATION OF WAVE NETWORKING SERVICES Group 12 Supervised By: Dr. Ajith Pasqual
  2. 2. OVERVIEW• WAVE is a next generation Dedicated short Range Communication (DSRC) technology.• Has a data rate of 3-27Mbps even under a fast moving situation.• 802.11p/DSRC technology is the basis for future Intelligent Transportation Systems.• The number of 802.11p/DSRC devices, available in the international market are very few and generally the price exceeds 5000 USD.
  3. 3. PROCEDURE• Driver Development  5.85 ~ 5.925GHz wireless mini-PCI with Atheros chip set  PC Ubuntu 12.04 LTS environment Open source ath5k driver• Implementation  Alix 3D3 board  Voyage Linux 0.8.0
  4. 4. DRIVER DEVELOPMENT (802.11A  802.11P)• Frequency (5.85- 5.925 GHz)• Bandwidth (10 MHz)• Bit Rate (3, 4.5, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 27)• Symbol Duration (8µs)• Preamble Duration• Sub Carrier Spacing• Guard Time• FFT Period
  5. 5. WAVE PROTOCOL STACK WSMP – For Safety messages & controlling purposes IPV6 – For advanced features (Internet, Toll collection)
  6. 6. WAVE NETWORK SERVICE (IEEE 1609.3)Linux socket (int domain, int type, int protocol)WSMP domain =AF_PACKET type = sock_diagram protocol = 0x88dc 1 1 1 1 1 4 2 VariableWSM Security Channel Data TX power Provider WSM WSMVersion type number Rate Level Service length data Identifier WSMP header FormatIPV6 domain =AF_INET6 type = sock_diagram protocol = 0x86dd
  7. 7. CONTINUATION…• 802.11p parameters• Network Service Functions• Mounting on a vehicle• An application for demonstrating purposes (With GPS)  Traffic controlling at a junction• An application for demonstrating purposes (Without GPS)  Highway-rail intersection warning  Ambulance/Military alarming
  8. 8. CHALLENGES• The ideal antenna must range within 5.85-5.925 GHz with cable and MMCX connector Alternative :- GHz2.4-5.8GHz 4dBi Antenna• Mounting the device on a vehicle• Information and available resources are minimum• The enormous budget
  9. 9. BUDGETItem Cost (Rs)2 mini PCI 50875Tax for mini PCI 36502 PCI to mini PCI converters 12252 ALIX and two power supplies 439032 flash and flash reader 56262 antennas 51491 mmcx connector 1891 USB keyboard 700Total 111,317 THE END
