    • Caused by wind .
    • Wind is caused by unequal heating of the Earth.
    • Size
      • Distance winds blows (further=bigger)
      • Speed of the wind (faster=bigger)
  • Currents – River in the Ocean
    • Surface Currents
      • Caused by wind .
      • Cold (from polar regions) and Warm (from Equator)
      • Affect climate
        • Ex. Gulfstream makes England warmer than it should be
    • Deep Currents
      • Caused by differences in density,
        • Temperature
        • Salinity
  • Tides – the daily rise and fall of the Earth’s water on the shore
    • Gravitational pull of the moon (70%) and the sun (30%)
    • One high tide and one low tide every six hours.
    • High tide – one every 12 hours
    • Low tide – one every 12 hours
    • Spring Tide
      • Biggest difference between high tide and low tide
      • When moon, Earth, and sun are in straight line (full & new moons)
    • Neap Tide
      • Smallest difference between high tide and low tide
      • When moon, Earth, and sun are at right angles (1 st & 3 rd quarter)
