    11. 11. 60 Second Job Preparation 1 - Whether you are young or old, just be sharp, enthusiastic, energetic, happy. 2 - Get fit and trim. 3 - Collect potential questions and write out short answers – keep this forever. 4 - Make your resume simple, easy to read, replacing statements like, hardworking, 15 years experience, with objective statements that hit hard and prove your skills and abilities, using numbers and dollars.  If you want a job as a Tax Accountant, put those words in several places.  Put down accomplishments not job duties on the resume and remember you don't need your boss' approval for what you say. 5 - Put your resume on Monster and Careerbuilder and edit it daily, yes daily, so people will see that it's fresh.  Carefully word your title in Monster, something like Joe Green, Tax Account. 6 - Make it easy for people to contact you with only one phone, don't screen calls and use a short, simple, professional email address. 7 - Networking is king for getting a job.  Read, &quot; How to make people like you in 90 seconds&quot; by Boothman 8 – Use recruiters, but don’t lose your common sense. 9 – Don’t lose your common sense and do things like give strangers your social security number 10 – Be proud of who you are and what you have done and get in a good mood prior to interviews. 11 – Rely on God.

    19. 19. Resumes - James [email_address] Make it easy to contact you! <ul><li>Recent studies have shown that an applicant's resume gets 7 seconds before it is judged (good or bad) by a potential employer. &quot;I don't have time to read through each resume and search for the important points. 23. 23. Your Professional Summary The purpose of the Professional Summary is to summarize your experience and highlight dimensions of your background Resume readers look for specific work and industry experience and positions you've held to weave together a story about you The Professional Summary is positioned at or near the beginning of your resume A Professional Summary is your opportunity to highlight important experiences relevant to the position you're seeking Use Elevator Pitch http://www.pongoresume.com/newsletters/16/resume-tips-headings-professional-summary.cfm Resumes - James [email_address] Make it easy to contact you!
    24. 24. Many of us underestimate our achievements. We're often told not to boast, that modesty is the best policy. We show up to do our jobs every day and sometimes do great things -- isn't that enough? Well, not if you want your resume to get noticed. Employers look for achievers, candidates who go above and beyond their job duties. Your resume allows you to describe your best accomplishments so employers want to take a chance on you. If you think you have no career accomplishments, think again. Everybody has them; it's just a matter of digging down and pinpointing what they are. What Is an Accomplishment? On your resume, an accomplishment is an example of how you contributed to your employer, or it's an achievement that reflects the kind of worker you are. Did you win any awards or receive some type of recognition List things your boss may disagree with (this is not a job description or perf review) Convert words to power words http://www.bc.edu/offices/careers/skills/resumes/verbs.html Examples: Quantify, Quantify, Quantify A welder relays her dedication to quality: “Achieved a record of zero defects in all pipe-welding and ductwork jobs.” An engineer shows how he contributed to the bottom line: “Drove $1.2 million revenue increase by deploying 200-plus software suites for company's leading product line.” http://www.resumepower.com/resume-accomplishments.html Resumes - James
    25. 25. Convert words to power words http://www.bc.edu/offices/careers/skills/resumes/verbs.html Use a thesaurus…… Scheduled = arrange, organize, establish, blueprint Attended = team, develop, planned Administrate = manage, head-up, direct, supervise, oversee Coordinated = Integrate, standardize, organized Participate = team, partner, Attended meetings to increase quality control Directed data verification in increasing quality control by 75%.
