Intranet design + redesign (Canberra, 27 October 2009) - Presentation Transcript

    1. Deliver a best practice intranet that is intuitive and usable for staff Canberra • 27 October 2009 Maximum 10 participants for greatest interactivity EXPERT SESSION: Intranet design + redesign Step Two Designs • www.steptwo.com.au
    2. The biggest complaint about intranets: I can’t find anything!
    3. How should intranets be designed and structured?
    4. If the intranet isn’t easy to use, there’s little point in having one! To design (or redesign) an intranet, we need to put staff first, and follow a “user-centred design” approach. This workshop outlines this best practice methodology and provides many examples.
    5. The workshop is built around the Intranet Roadmap, the best practice methodology that outlines all the activities needed to design or redesign an intranet. This gives a clear outline for all intranet teams to follow, ensuring nothing is missed.
      • Taking a “user-centred design” approach to the intranet gives teams a range of practical usability techniques that get beyond opinions and arguments.
      • Techniques include card sorting, card-based classification evaluation, and usability testing.
      • These will all be covered during this workshop.
      User-centred design
      • One of the greatest challenges for intranet teams is how hard it is to see other intranets, and to uncover design ideas.
      • The workshop will share many examples, as well as screenshots of good designs.
      • This will give teams a wealth of ideas to draw upon when designing their intranets.
