  • 2. SCHOOL HISTORY From Hard Back Books to iPads.
  • 3. WHAT IS AN IPAD?? The iPad is a tablet computer that is lightweight and mobile. The iPad is only a half-inch thick, and weighs only 1.5 pounds. It is approximately 9.5-inches tall and 7.5 inches wide. Basically it combines the best features of a notebook or netbook computer and an iPod touch.
  • 4. IPADS THE FUTURE??Firstreleased April 3, 2010Secondary schools began to bring them in during next school year.PC’s were a novelty to our Generation but are now Life for the new Generation.

  • 6. PROS OF IPADS IN SCHOOLS Students are now “More Tech Savvy” Daily Mail Says “over Half of 3 & 4year olds are Tech Savvy” Students become interested in subjects. Students have better posture. There grade/progress can be stored in a database from the iPad.

PROS OF IPADS IN SCHOOLS Option to connect to iPad Dock in order to connect to a TV or projector, ability to use with other devices in the classroom. Cuts down on paper costs. Platform for e-textbooks. Creates a social reading experience allows students to connect with other people reading the same book, and provides an interactive experience.

FURTHER BENEFITS Students will store all there grades on their iPad which will allow new teachers to see where they are falling behind and where they are excelling. Apps may be ran at a modified difficulty to suit all students. Teachers will have more time to give to individual students to help them succeed.
  • 9. CONS OF IPADS IN SCHOOLS Cost App Availability Access to Games Schools implementation of access to apps Cyber bullying Less motivation to do exercise during breaks (obesity)
  • 10. CONS OF IPADS IN SCHOOLS SocialNetwork Sites. Does not support flash – many websites for kids need flash to run. Lack of multitasking. Durability factor – not as durable as a textbook. Keyboard is not easy to use.

ASSIST SPECIAL NEEDS LEARNING Hopper’s Crossing, Victoria, Australia They have a list of apps which have been particularly successful in teaching students who have special learning needs. Prologue2go is an up and coming app for special needs students. Red Fish 4 Kids assisted students in learning how to spell.
  • 13. EASE OF USE OF ALL TYPES OF PEOPLE AND CHILDREN
  • 14. IPAD VS. ANDROID TABLET Android is Cheaper than the iPad Some Android tablets are Faster A lot more free apps that are needed for education are free on Android. More Memory for less.

OVERVIEW Itis evident that iPads are becoming the future of education in schools. However I believe that iPads should be used in moderation as there are many side effects that will effect the students in the long run. iPads have so far not specifically designed to be used for educational use.
