  • 1. 1.Initial audience research
  • 2. This is my version of the Verve Pipe this is at a diseangled CU and follows conventions of my genre of I followed conventions here by copying themusic fading edits of main characters and singers. This is the official version of the verve pipe. The The two different images are MS and havetwo contain a mysterious girl who fades in and a fading edit which is conventional.out but also is blurred at time.
  • 3. My Version - The Freshman My Version - The FreshmanBoth of these shots represent 4th wall and actas if the singers are addressing the audiences. These two shots, are similar as it is twoThe two BCU’s are copied as convention as the people who love each other. And end upmusic is both in the same style of genre. parting. The two shots however lead to a break up. The Rascal Flats – What Hurts The Most Runaway Train – Soul Asylum
  • 4. The video ‘The Freshman’ by ‘The Verve Pipe’ was constructed and designed to givea little narrative but also a mysterious element to the shots. The editing of differentshots tended to be either a fade in or a straight jump cut to represent the fast paceof that particular piece of narrative. Meise en scene demonstrates throughout thevideo the different styles of costumes, representing the different ages and theexperiences between past on present. The filters over certain parts of the filmrepresent different memories. The sepia denotes the singers past and experiences. The black and white denotes the memories of his ‘friend who gets slapped’ andfinally the unedited colour represents modern time as a old man, reminiscing abouthis past. The candles in the video also co-inside with the candles and the ‘Brand’ of“Fire” however candles are connoted to be elegant and also primitive. They in thepast were used to light the way however now they are used as decorations andnothing more. The use of non-diegetic sound added to the video was to maximiseoptimum sound output and give a clear crisp quality of sound. The camera work and variety of different shot types add different effects andmeanings.. It also adds audience gratification to keep the audience interested. Ihave used many different shots, from Long shots, Zooms, MLS, MS, and also CU.The performance from all actors is armature however we gave it our best and thatsall you can do. There are certain parts that are better than others
  • 5. 2. How effective is the combination of your Audience fits in BRANDMAIN PRODUCT and ANCILLARY texts? very easily with My brand was constructed both ancillary and to give a indie rock theme. main product as The colours are not to the two go and go vibrant yet they do not hand in hand with make the album look to the same concept dull. The colours are warm of institution. The and the image is reason my I chose deliberately designed to this is due to the create the denotation of indie rock being young freshmen. (when relaxed and fire can lighter and fire were very denote both... It cool) the fonts I used were can be both the to create a easy to read yet living source of life not boring title. The font I but also the taker used was “MV Boli” this of life aswell. gave the title character; it reflected a younger generation of writing.
  • 6. This was created whilst trying to keep the same brand , of fire and candles.FRONT COVER However the candles were not very gratifying to audiences. Therefore I had to create a front cover by using my Zippo in a cupboard. The actual image was not cropped or altered in anyway however I did use some effects to create the dark and light contrasting. The different levels of light leaving the flame gives a warm denotes heat and warmth. I achieved this by using Photoshop and using the artistic filter option and choosing angled strokes .Also the lighter gives a younger.
  • 7. The text that was used is called MV Boliand again it is used to represent teenagersand young styled writing, or graffiti pens. The alternate places was a design I copiedfrom the Album “Here and Now” byNickelback, however to keep originality Imoved the title to the side.
  • 8. This again to keep with he brand from the front cover had to contain some sort of light. Therefore the flames from the candles denote the front cover. Furthermore our main video piece also uses a lot of candles. The image has been edited by using Hue and saturation and leaning it more towards the red. The left side however has been edited to become symmetrical. I believe this gives it mystery as it does look interesting and different. The darkness however also follows along the theme of night in the music video.Inside cover
  • 9. This ancillary is actually me just stood against a white wall... And the background photo is accidental shot that I took whilst trying to get a poster image. However the two together denote freedom and the lights can connote many different things from fire to performance, staging or just street lights. This unique shot was totally original and un- copied from anything else.Back cover RCA is a real company that is on the original album and therefore to keep with convention I decided to place it in its rightful place.
  • 10. The song titles are in fact theoriginal songs from the real band“The Verve Pipe” The font usedagain is the same as the frontcovers “MV Boli” furthermore thelights behind although one doescover up a bit of a song title it givesa lovely lively warm effect.
  • 11. POSTER The Poster was created by taking my camera up Werneth low in Stockport and taking various different shots. The clean cut font was used to keep the poster clean. The red colour again was to keep with the brand of fire from both the album covers and also the main music product.
  • 12. INSTITUTION OF FIRE
  • 13. My institution is very easily recognisable. Theuse of effects and fire clearly demonstrate mybrand. The colour coding procedure wasdifficult however to keep with convention Itried to stay with the colour scheme of red, black and orange. As these colours are yourtypical genre for enigma and fire. To add thefew things that I could change however is theamount of enigma in my video as allot of it isun answered however some of it is designed toget audiences to reflect and wonder plus maketheir own opinions. My genre is indie rock andtherefore the images could not be to ‘poprock’ or to heavy. After much debating Idecided to go for the lighter and lights as it ismutual and can stretch across many differentgenre’s.
  • 14. 3. What have you havelearned fromAUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
  • 15. Sub questions to consider: a. Planning.A lot of my work was createdfrom imagination, and little How did you find your audience? (similarideas from other music products, demographic work from last year, videos. However a lot of the etc)shots and transitions also How did your audience research and responsecostume was created one influence the construction of your products?night in my room. Howeversome of the ideas did comefrom similar videos such asNickelback, BohemianRhapsody, Goo Goo Dolls. Thereason for this was that I likethe certain effects used.
  • 16. • As you can see the genre leaned towards Indie Rock• The majority who listened enjoyed the song I had in mind and therefore there was no need to re-think of another band.• With the amateur band, the views on You Tube were very low and therefore was a acceptable and decent song to use.
  • 17. b. How did you use audience responses todefine your target audience? My Target audience was confirmed or re-affirmed when I got the results of theAudience research task. It gave me firmconfirmation towards my ideas. Themixture of colour, black and white andfinally sepia gives the video definition butalso enigma. My target audience reachwas intestinally indie rockers who likeguitars and drums. But also enjoy agood narrative.
  • 18. The questionnaire I usedwas designed to be quickand simple to read withminimal effort required. As my target audiencetend to lack patienceand attention. Thequestions I asked werealso designed to be easyto tally up, leaving notmuch room to give ahuge amount ofanswers.
  • 19. Various “Likes” on Quotes From Audiences “It was good apart from the girl who kept smiling “

  • 26. 4. How did you use MEDIATECHNOLOGIES in theCONSTRUCTION and RESEARCH,PLANNING and EVALUATION stages?
  • 27. Technologies• Photoshop – used for editing the music video• Word - for creating the script and for the questionnaire• Imovie – for creating the final product, ‘The Freshmen by The Verve Pipe’• Powerpoint – for showcasing my work and explaining the details of my work• Windows media player – for allowing me to view and show others for feedback.
  • 28. Preliminary taskTo get ourselves used to the new software‘Imovie’ and also to get used to the newkeyboards. In the lesson we used a fiveminute clip from the beginning of aCoronation Street clip and then manipulate it,to create what you want. I decided to beimmature and create a clip called sexy timethat is now on You Tubehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLzqlrwfCKk Its idea was to be humorous but get melearning the ropes of Imovie.
  • 29. BLOG AND WORK• My blog consists of most of my work, I use it to show my peers and teachers the work I have done. It gives them a chance to review it and check on my progression.
