The Republic of Antarctica was founded in 2050 A.D., a decade after global overpopulation first resulted in the establishment of a permanent settlement on the icy continent. More than a century later, Antarctica’s exponential population growth continues to mystify the rest of the world. Antarctic Futures explores how these secretive inhabitants have thrived against all odds through the use of trehalose, a sugar that protects them from the extreme cold.
