  1. 1. Women in Business President’s Message School Has Started And Labor Day Will Soon Be A Memory Issue 3 | 9/5/13 September 2013 The crisp days and bright colors of autumn will soon be upon us. That means we are building momentum for a great year of Women in Business. I am looking forward to our September 10 luncheon. Dr. Merideth Ferguson, assistant professor of management at the Huntsman School of Business at USU, is scheduled to be our speaker. She will be speaking on Work/Life Balance. This is a topic that touches everyone on a daily basis. It is amazing how someone else’s mood can affect the entire workplace. I am excited to learn any helpful tidbit that will make my life and workplace better. As a reminder, in October we have our scholarship auction. This is a great opportunity to help WIB. Please donate items for the auction and come prepared to shop. I use the auction as a means to get most of my Christmas shopping completed. Remember that all the money from the auction will go directly to scholarships. To donate to the auction, complete the form at Facebook - Women In Business Cache Valley Thank you all for supporting Women In Business. LolaJean “LJ” Bolton, President
  2. 2. ; 2 Issue 3 | 9/5/13 Linda Kimball is married to Rocky Kimball, formerly of Rocky’s Pizza fame. Although she was raised in Idaho, they’ve lived in Smithfield for over 30 years so they are nearly old-timers in that community. They are the parents of 4 children and grandparents of 11 grandchildren who live from Hollywood CA to Houston TX. Linda enjoys reading, writing, traveling and camping, but doesn’t get to do any of them nearly enough. She also enjoys knitting and crocheting. Linda works at the Utah State University Research Foundation (USURF) as the Special Assistant to the President. She serves as the Recording Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation and the rest of her time is spent on special projects for the President. In the past some of those have included strategic planning coordinator and leading the creation of a Continuation of Operations Plan for the organization. She loves the challenge and variety of her job. She’d like to retire so there would be more time for her hobbies, but is having too much fun working. USURF provides business operations services for the Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL). SDL has been responsible for the design, fabrication, and operation of thousands of sensors on hundreds of payloads ranging from aircraft and rocket-borne experiments to space shuttle experiments, small satellites, and satellite-based sensor systems. Some of these projects are completed by students from USU working part-time for SDL. As one of 14 University Affiliated Research Centers in the nation, SDL conceives and develops state-of-the-art sensor and satellite systems and performs space, air, and ground-based experiments. They develop prototype sensor hardware and associated software. Most of their work is done for various government agencies including NASA. Some of their work includes the 2009 WISE project with NASA and components for the International Space Stations, as well as the Mars rover named Curiosity. The engineers and supporting personnel are proud of their contribution to society. Remember to RSVP for the WiB luncheon. It will be held Tuesday, September 10th at Chuck-A-Rama on south Main. Our guest speaker is Dr. Merideth Ferguson, Assistant Professor Management Department Utah State University. “ Work/Life Balance.” RSVP HERE! SPOTLIGHT ON LINDA KIMBALL
