But, who knows about you!

Keeping Everything Separate
Currently, the social networking platforms fall into 2 Networking categories
Open Networks
Like Twitter, unless you have a blocked account
Closed Networks
Like Facebook & LinkedIn, where you need to grant permission to join your network
Many social networks fail to discriminate or disassociate the professional from the personal

Aligning all of your circles
Your first step is to understand and to evaluate your connections
Many of you have already done this
Look at your social connections
Then look at your other social network platforms
Facebook
Linkedin
Twitter
…etc

CIRCLES
Allows you to group your connections any way you wish
Currently only personal accounts can be “encircled”
1 connection can be included in more than 1 circle
Google+ User must use their real name

Your Streams & Threads
The Originator of the Thread
As much of the tread as will fit
The Date of the thread
The number of replies to your thread

HOME
A chronological listing of Content
Much like the Facebook Wall
Are able to +1 your circle(s)’s posts
Muting a post
Use with caution, prevents you from seeing updates to the post
Links to this post
Opens the thread in a separate tab/window

Digital Curation
Most employers want to know both the professional & the person
Be cognizant of “digital dirt”
Your posts should reflect the value you bring
TIP: Avoid text only posts
Links and mediated content provide greater value

Has similar functionality to Skype
Text, Voice and Video, all or any combination of the 3
Hangouts are open or by invitation
Are currently not recorded or archived
The current maximum limit is 10 user accounts

Employers & Hangouts
More than just a phone screen, but less than a face-to-face interview
A multimedia approach to a phone screen
A pseudo reference/character check
Can be efficient and convenient
Much like a panel phone screen, without the echo and background noise, hopefully

Can assist with professional development
Classes and seminars are currently conducted and free of charge
