  1. 1. The Safe Use of the internet for children The internet is an amazing invention and has allowed millions of people to communicate globally with people they never would have been able to contact before. But with all this technology there must be some risks?right?

How to Stay Safe? <ul><li>Staying safe on the internet is simple, here are a few tips for staying safe: </li></ul><ul><li>Use only trusted site (or sites you have already visited) </li></ul><ul><li>Never give your name or address out over the internet </li></ul><ul><li>Install Anti-Virus </li></ul><ul><li>Turn Pop Up Blockers on </li></ul>
  3. 3. Rule 1: Use Trusted Sites <ul><li>So What are they? Basically trusted sights is a feature on Internet explorer where you can assign sites that you know to be trustworthy. Then you can set the internet so that it can only access the trusted websites you have listed. </li></ul><ul><li>Why Use This? Simply…its perfect for young children because you can then control what they go on and what they are looking at. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Rule 2 : Install Anti Virus <ul><li>Anti virus software comes as a complete package and will protect your pc from any unwanted files. Not only that most anti virus software comes with popup blockers installed. There are many various companies that offer antivirus. Each piece of software is updated on a regular basis with new threats. The most popular of antivirus software being Norton. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Rule 3: Never Give Your Name And Address Out <ul><li>Under no circumstances should you give any details out over and instant message or chat room. Why? because the person you think you are speaking to may not be that actual person and use your information to create various things such as : </li></ul><ul><li>Fake Accounts </li></ul><ul><li>Bank Cards </li></ul><ul><li>Credit Cards </li></ul><ul><li>Store Cards </li></ul>

Rule 4: Always Protect Yourself <ul><li>Never give out address or phone numbers of your friends </li></ul><ul><li>Never reply to message from people you do not know </li></ul><ul><li>Never arrange to meet people you have met online </li></ul><ul><li>Learn features such as block and ignore </li></ul><ul><li>Report any threatening behavior or strange behavior </li></ul>
  7. 7. Rule 5: Make sure a parent knows when your surfing <ul><li>Telling someone when you are using the internet allows them to check to see if your alright. You can then tell them anything strange that is going on. </li></ul><ul><li>Never surf the internet without permission </li></ul><ul><li>Always report anything strange to an adult </li></ul>

Rule 6: Never give out your personal email address <ul><li>Many people have two account which they use,some for work and some for home use. </li></ul><ul><li>Never give them your personal email address as they could start sending large amount of mail to clog the inbox or even send a virus to try and corrupt the computer. </li></ul>
  9. 9. Rule 7: Don't download any files on the computer without permission <ul><li>Downloading files can be a very risky business. Always make sure that the website your downloading from is legitimate and is a well known website such as www.bbc.co.uk </li></ul><ul><li>Downloaded files can contain files that can delete and even destroy files on your computer. </li></ul>

Rule 8:always use a pop up blocker <ul><li>Many websites these days have annoying little window which pop up right in the middle of something you are doing. </li></ul><ul><li>These are called pop ups and are a form of advertisement but can be very annoying and contain inappropriate content. </li></ul><ul><li>So what to do? use the pop up blocker then they will never trouble you again! </li></ul>
  11. 11. Rule 9: Never use a picture of yourself without your parents permission <ul><li>Using a photo of yourself can very dangerous. People can change the photo however they like and could end up turning in to cyber bullying </li></ul>

Rule 10: SPAM <ul><li>Never click on advertisements sent through email. </li></ul><ul><li>SPAM can contain viruses </li></ul><ul><li>SPAM can contain inappropriate content </li></ul><ul><li>Always delete spam or ignore it </li></ul><ul><li>Block spammers that send multiple emails to your email account. </li></ul>
