  2. 2. <ul><li>A wiki is a web page that can be viewed and modified by anybody with a browser and access to the internet. </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>It is a “living” website </li></ul><ul><li>Allows e asy collaborative document editing and creation </li></ul><ul><li>Allows multiple people to easily contribute to the same document and track the changes </li></ul>
  4. 4. What else does it do? <ul><li>Upload multimedia objects eg sound files, images, slideshows, animations,videos, powerpoint presentations </li></ul><ul><li>Easily create a web page </li></ul><ul><li>Project development with peer review (link to blog) </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>Data collection eg upload & share Word, Excel, pdf files and documents etc </li></ul><ul><li>Share other resources eg links, samples </li></ul><ul><li>Group authoring </li></ul><ul><li>Discussion threads </li></ul>
  6. 6. <ul><li>Wikis have a very simple text editor which is quick and easy to learn and does not require any coding skills. </li></ul>EDITING

POINTS TO NOTE <ul><li>Wiki contributors must understand and accept that their words may be edited or even possibly deleted </li></ul><ul><li>Power and authority is given to the community rather than individual </li></ul><ul><li>Wiki authors do not generally claim ownership of the text </li></ul>
  8. 8. However…. <ul><li>There is some control over who contributes </li></ul><ul><li>Open or closed membership </li></ul><ul><li>Open – anyone can see it – anyone can contribute </li></ul><ul><li>Closed – anyone can see it – only invited members can contribute </li></ul>

Other controls… <ul><li>Anyone can remove anything that is put on the wiki – self-regulating </li></ul><ul><li>There is a strong commitment by wiki users to keep it clean and on track – all non-contributive comments will be deleted by other users </li></ul><ul><li>History facility logs all contributions by date, name and computer ID </li></ul>
  10. 10. <ul><li>There are many wiki varieties including TiddlyWiki, MediaWiki, Wet Paint and many more. </li></ul><ul><li>Wikispaces – is used by many educational institutions, is well-monitored and reliable. </li></ul>
