      • Spend 45 minutes on the question
      • 15 minutes per 10 marks
      • Consider answering section C first
    4. Sustainability
      • Definition?
      • Link to development?
      • What do you already know?
      • Development must meet the needs of people without depleating resources or damaging the systems which produce these resources, be they environmental, ecological or economic.
    5. Conservation v Development
      • Conservation can be of ecosystems or resources or a variety of ways of life or conservation of the balance between population and resources
      • Development may be economic, bridging the development gap, improving living standards, health care, social welfare and life expectancy
      • The conflicts are of economic advancement and the resources needed to maintain advancement
    6. Environmental degradation and destruction
      • Product of climate change, hazard events, exploitation of resources, the activities of governments and companies, individual actions may also produce the same effects on a small scale & only become significant when combined
    7. Poverty
      • The poverty of environments may occur as a result of activities outlined in the previous section.
      • Climate change may result in poverty.
      • Economic development or lack of it may cause poverty because some countries do not have the resources to develop at the speed of the wealthy
      • Poverty exists in all societies & the gap is widening in spatial & social terms
    8. Globalisation
      • It has an impact on environments. It is simplifying ecosystems, causing global warming, altering the geography of production & consumption and impacting on economies and people.
