  2. 2. HISTORY OF NAGA CITY<br />
  3. 3. Before the coming of Spanish conquerors, Naga was already a flourishing village along the banks of the Naga River.<br />It was an important village with <br />comparatively sophisticated weaponry<br />and surprisingly advanced culture.<br />
  4. 4. For hundreds of years during the Spanish colonial era, the Naga that we know now was the center of trade, education and culture, and the seat of governmental and ecclesiastical jurisdiction in Bicol and parts of modern Southern Tagalog and Central Luzon.<br />
  5. 5. “SalogkanNaga:<br />SalogkanBuhay”<br />
  6. 6. Naga City was said to be a royal city, a royal city nourished by the Spaniards in their colonialism. It made the people in Naga religious lots of influences were adopted and even preserved until now especially Christianity. <br />
  7. 7. Those things were as if a treasure given to us and intended to be a lifetime blessings.<br />
  8. 8. Spanish influences even reached the physical development of Naga city particularly, in terms of architecture and thus, gave way to Naga city to define its own identity as one of the royal cities. <br />
  9. 9. Churches, cathedrals, basilicas, residential buildings, government structures were built and their existence reflects the richness of Naga city and contain the true character of Spanish architecture (renaissance) which really embraced by the Bicolanos before.<br />
  10. 10. It is really nice to know that Naga city has a great history and still existing until now through the presence of heritage structures. <br />
  11. 11. But as the days, months, years are passing by and new civilization erected and grows faster, it seems that the concerns captured most by modernism and eventually our historical background will be hidden from our new generation. <br />
  12. 12. A new civilization which builds up Naga city into its own purposes, not on what Naga City it is. <br />

  21. 21. We started from the river, we developed with the river and we progress through the river, now let us start and give life to the Naga River. <br />
  22. 22. We came up with a design which river will embrace and reflects the aesthetics and royalty of Naga.<br />

  28. 28. The four existing bridges were renovated and transformed into new ones. Spanish character were applied to show the richness of its history and a bridge that inspires and give honor to Bicolanos. This is a way which Bicolano would say “oragonako”. <br />

  33. 33. Riverwalks which designed as a park but moreover as a place where you can commemorate and realize what “ina” wants the Bicolanos would be. It is a place where you can appreciate the history of Naga City trough the presence of Spanish Architecture.<br />

  37. 37. It is a welcome arch for “INA” for the celebration of fluvial procession. It also symbolizes the be new life of the Naga River, a river which should never be treated as a place for disposal, a River which should be treated as a source of life, a miraculous river that ask for help, concern and love from the Bicolanos.<br />
