Republic of the PhilippinesCongress of the PhilippinesMetro ManilaThird Regular SessionBegun and held in Metro Manila, on Monday thetwenty-fifth day of July, nineteen hundred andninety-four.REPUBLIC ACT NO. 7797AN ACT TO LENGTHEN THE SOCIAL CALENDARFROM TWO HUNDRED (200) DAYS TO NOT MORETHAN TWO HUNDRED TWENTY (220) CLASS DAYS
  • 2. SECTION 1. Lengthening of SchoolCalendar.- Any provision of law to thecontrary notwithstanding, the school calendar foreach year beginning school year 1995-1996, shallbe lengthened to not more than two hundredtwenty (220) class days, inclusive of class dayswhich may be subsequently suspended due tonatural or manmade calamities
  • 3. SEC. 2. Non-reduction of Class Hours.- Thetotal number of class hours per day provided underthe present system shall not be reduced tocompensate for the increase in class days.SEC. 3. Start of the School Year.- Theschool year shall start on the first Monday of Junebut not later than the last day of August.In the implementation of this Act, the Secretary ofEducation, Culture and Sports shall determine theend of the regular school year, taking intoconsideration the Christmas and summer vacations,and the peculiar circumstances of each region.
  • 4. SEC. 4. Issuance of Rules and Regulations.-The Secretary of Education, Culture and Sportsshall issue, within ninety (90) days after theapproval of this Act, the necessary rules andregulations to implement this Act and ensure thatthe total class days prescribed in this Act shall bedevoted to the attainment of learning objectives.The DECS shall submit to the Committees onEducation, Arts and Culture of both Houses ofCongress copies of the implementing rules andguidelines within thirty (30) days after itspromulgation.
  • 5. SEC. 5. Repealing Clause.- All laws,presidential decrees, executive orders,rules and regulations or parts thereofinconsistent with this Act are herebyrepealed or modified accordingly.SEC. 6. Effectivity Clause.- ThisAct shall take effect upon its approval.
