  • 2. News Values  News is the major function of journalism.  News is information that helps us expand our lives and order the society in which we live.
  • 3. News Values  The separtaton of evnets into “news” and “not news” categories is a function of what we call news values. ( )
  • 4. Impact. ( )  Events that changed people’s lives are classified as news. Although the event itself might involve only a few people, the consequences ( ) may be wide-ranging.  For example, if Legislative Council passes a bill to raise taxes or if a researcher discovers a cure ( ) for a form of cancer, both actions will affect large numbers of people. ( )
