Slide 4: What is deNoizr? The deNoizr algorithm helps you sort your work and life. You use it to sort your emails, ToDos, requests for help, phone calls, projects, etc. The principle is simple: take all those unordered items and tasks that you are expected to handle every day (the noise) and sort them using the deNoizr algorithm. It will help you decide what needs to be done, when, and by whom. Slide 5: The Story of deNoizr The deNoizr algorithm was born soon after I read David Allen's excellent book, Getting Things Done following the recommendation of Merlin Mann of 43folders.com. Unfortunately, I am not as organized as David, nor do I think I need a system as sophisticated as his. So I developed my own. I have been fine-tuning deNoizr since 2005. Slide 6: How Does deNoizr Work? The deNoizr algorithm is designed to help you sort your everyday tasks. Everything you need to plough through your day can be put on one of the five lists shown below or you can do it right away. The best way to understand how it works is by using it. #Archive — items that can be used in the future as reference material, e.g. dictionaries, press clippings,  web pages, news items, market reports, etc. #Assignments — tasks delegated to others, things you are waiting for that will be supplied by others.  #CanWait — non-essential things that you would like to do in the future, e.g. learning Esperanto, visiting  Greenland, zorbing down the hills of Kentucky, etc. #ToDo — things to do, projects, and single tasks, e.g. collect kids from the school, clean up your room,  write that report, buy milk, etc. #Calendar — support list, the items from the four lists above go on your #Calendar list only if they have a  deadline or a 'best before' date. Why two lists? To avoid missing important deadlines. Can you do better? Yes, if you keep your lists short, e.g. no longer than one page, you can add date / time information right there and probably get rid of the #Calendar list altogether. Slide 8: add deNoizr to your blog or website Do you have your own website or blog? We've got a widget for you that lets you use deNoizr right from there.  add the deNoizr RSS feed to your site Our RSS feed is available for free to anyone who wants to subscribe to it or republish it. You can read it using your favorite RSS reader, desktop or online, such as Mozilla Thunderbird, or Google Reader. Things get a little tricky if you want to republish our RSS feed on your website or blog. Some content management systems, such Drupal allow you to do that via their RSS reader modules, but a lot of times you are left on your own to add the code to your website or blog template. Since every blog system is different, the best advice we can give you is to check how to edit your blog templates. Once you know how to do it, add the widget code to the template. To get the code used to embed the deNoizr RSS feed on your website / blog, click on the Options button at the bottom of the widget and choose the Get Embed Code menu option. A: deNoizr is a simple system for managing work and life. It is easy to learn and use. Q: How does it work? A: We wish it could be more complex (more money for us!), but deNoizr really is very simple. It is just a bunch of lists and an algorithm that helps you decide what goes where and what to do next. You run everything that you have, need, or want to do through a short list of questions and the answers you give help you decide what can and cannot wait. We could be more elaborate, but the best way to learn deNoizr is by actually trying it. Go on, it's free! Q: How many lists does deNoizr define? A: Five. Actually, that's not true. There are only four lists and a calendar called the #Calendar list. It all depends on your style, there is no golden standard that you can refer to, try different approaches, deNoizr won't break. Q: Why is there no #Shopping list? A: There is. It is called #ToDo. If you feel you need a separate list just for your shopping, simply add a #Shopping list and process your stuff through deNoizr as usual. Then, if a #ToDo item is something you need to buy, put it on the #Shopping list, and the #Calendar list, if necessary. Q: How often should I scan my lists for the next tasks to complete? A: Scan your lists as you go. Clean them up once a day, at the end of your day. Q: What are those # characters for? A: Programmers use # to mark the start of comments in the code they write. Being a programmer I chose it to mark the start of the name of each deNoizr list. Q: Why not use @ instead? A: Aha! You've been studying the GTD methodology, haven't you? The choice of # is personal. As a programmer, I am used to seeing # marks to start comments. The second reason has to do with the look of the text rendered by hand, in less than perfect conditions. # is easier to render on a shaky London double-decker than a @. Q: Is that all? A: Yes. That's all. You are free to make it more complex than it needs to be. Q: What is deNoizr.com? A: It is a website that teaches you how to use deNoizr in practice.
