  • 3. First, we went to the shop… There were so many products, we could not decide what to buy!
  • 4. Finally, we chose the things we needed and bought them.

The ingredients we need for one pie (10 portions), in grams (1 cup = 250 g; 1 tablespoon = 20 g): For the dough: * flour - 1.75 cups = 1.75 x 250 g = 437.5 g = approx. 440 g * salt - a pinch = half of a tablespoon = 20 g : 2 = 10 g * butter (cut into small pieces) - 3/4 cup = 3/4 x 250 g = 187.5 g = approx. 190 g * cold water – 4.5 tablespoons = 4.5 x 20 g = 90 g (= 90 ml) For the filling: * unsweetened cocoa - 3 tablespoons = 3 x 20 g = 60 g * sugar - 1 cup = 1 x 250 g = 250 g * water - 1 cup = 1 x 250 g = 250 g (= 250 ml) * butter - 2 tablespoons = 2 x 20 g = 40 g * flour - 1/3 cup = 1/3 x 250 g = 83.(3) g = approx. 80 g * 3 egg yolks * milk - 2/3 cup = 2/3 x 250 g = 166.(6) g = approx. 170 g (=approx. 170 ml) * vanilla - 1 teaspoon = 1 x 20 g = 20 g (= approx. 20 ml) (we use a total of 440 g + 80 g = 520 g of flour and a total of 190 g + 40 g = 230 g of butter)

Price of a pie (10 portions): 520 g flour costs: 520 g / 1000 g x 3.50 lei = 1.82 lei 10 g salt costs: 10 g / 1000 g x 1.70 lei = 0.017 lei 230 g butter costs: 230 g/250 g x 7.99 lei=7.3508 lei 90 ml of cold water costs: 90 ml/500 ml x 2.59 lei = 0.4662 lei 60 g of unsweetened cocoa costs: 60 g/100 g x 3.00 lei =1.8 lei 250 g sugar costs: 250 g/1000 g x4.29 lei=1.0725 lei 250 ml of water costs: 250 ml / 500 ml x 2.59 lei = 1.295 lei 170 ml milk costs: 170 ml/1000 ml x 5.49 lei = 0.9(3) lei = approx 0.93 lei 20 ml vanilla costs: 20 ml/20 ml x 2.60 lei = 2.60 lei TOTAL: 1.82 lei + 0.017 lei + 7.3508 lei + 0.4662 lei + 1.8 lei + 1.0725 lei + 1.295 lei + 0.93 lei + 2.60 lei = 17.3515 lei

  • 11. Baking temperatures in ˚ Farenheit: (˚ F = 9/5 x ˚C + 32) 1. 210 ˚C = 9/5 x 210 + 32 = 378 + 32 = 410 ˚F 2. 180 ˚C = 9/5 x 180 + 32 = 324 + 32 = 356 ˚F The ratio between flour and butter: 520 g / 190 g = approx. 2.74
