  • 14. MOR JACOB/SAINT JACOB MONASTERY – OUR PROJECT’S STARTING POINT A s the Turkish researchers sustain , during the 4 th century (326 A.D.) , h ere was founded the first university in the world .

    • The university had between 800 and 1000 students . The official languages were Greek and Syriac.

    • Mor Jacob Monastery – “the oldest university in the world”, visited by students and teachers from the partner schools
  • 18. THE UNIVERSITY’S ENTRANCE IS SITUATED ON TODAY’S BORDER BETWEEN TURKEY AND SYRIA. THAT IS WHY THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCHES CANNOT BE CONTINUED FOR THE MOMENT.
