    • Background of the issue
      • In South Korea it is stated that 90% of the homes consist of cheap and high speed Broadband  Internet addiction
      • More than 50% students have skipped school being able to stay online gambling = decreasing their academic grades
      • 30% of young people from 18 years old as also 2.4 million of people are at risk of internet addiction at South Korea
      • 17.8 million fee-paying games in China
      • 11% of the adolescent are internet addicted and “have scored highest level of depression”. (Dr. Sang Kyu Lee)
    • Real-life cases
      • The case of Lee change-Hoon, a 15 year old Korean who “came to prefer the virtual world”  he spent 17 hour on internet, skipping school 2 or 3 times a week
      • A 17 year old high school student who suffered heart failure after playing nonstop in a PC bang for two days
    • What makes the internet so addictive
      • There are a lot of social interactive network in which they hang out with other people and talking to them, such as chats, email, discussion forum or virtual world
    • Disadvantages
      • Creates economic issue  gambling online leading to debts
      • Isolation from society
      • Damaging their physical and mental health
      • Sleep deprivation  internet addictives prefer to surf the internet instead of sleeping
      • In the long-term creates carpal tunnel syndrome, which consist in “tingling and numbness in the hand, fingers and wrist, swelling of the fingers” (Nyuli Chiropractic P.C.)
      • Obsession with surfing
      • Increase time online
      • Risking loss of job, relationship or opportunity to spend time online
      • Using internet to escape from problems
      • Losing sleep to surf
      Disadvantages Symptoms
    • Advantages
      • The internet now offers us:
      • wealth of knowledge to shopping
      • purchasing the ticket to your favourite places
      • Communication  global integration in which it is able to explore other cultures of different ethnicity
      • Cheaper access to find background information, statistics and news from abroad
      • Appeal to different learning styles
    • Solutions
      • South Korea  created summer camps which provide internet- addiction counseling center and 100 hospitals to decrease internet addiction
      • Parents should take in action  should establish limited hours in which their children should surf the internet
      • In gambling games they should apply an age limit  giving an identification ID
      • Teenagers should be monitored into what websites they access, in order to avoid internet addiction
