  2. 2. What is Yoga? An ancient tradition Originated more than 2000 years ago A means by which humankind could attain self –realization or enlightenment The health of the physical body as a route to improve the state of the mind Includes practice of postures Breathing exercises
  3. 3. Benefits of Yoga Gives you energy Relaxes mind and body Stretches and Tones Improves Flexibility Strengthen the spine Improves breathing Soothes the nervous system

Different types of yoga Bikram: Postures sequentially performed in a room preheated to 100 degrees Kundalini: mixes chanting, breathing and poses with more emphasis on chanting and breathing rather than getting postures right Ashtanga: ”workout” form of yoga, practice poses continually and quickly Iengar: Focuses on attention to detail and getting alignment to poses absolutely right Viniyoga: emphasis on healing and gentler than other styles, breath and movement of spine carefully integrated

KUNDALINI AND THE CHAKRAS Kundalini: is a practice derived from the Kundalini energy Energy lies dormant at the bottom of the spine Envisaged as a sleeping serpent We are born with this energy it lies dormant until activation Goal for meditation, to clear the Chakras to let the kundalini flow naturally.
