  • 3. The Build Up. • 1940, Germany Blitzkrieg’s through Belgium, Holland and France. Allied troops retreat to Dunkirk. -Winston Churchill “The battle of France is over, the battle of Britain is about to begin” • 1941, Hitler invades Russia. Japan attack Pearl Harbour. • 1942, Germany hit set backs at Stalingrad. Mass murder of Jews begins at Auschwitz. • 1943, German troops surrender at Stalingrad. Italy surrenders to Allies then occupied by Germany.
  • 4. The Progress. • 1944, Allies land at Anzio and bomb Monte Cassino. Russia picks up pace in east Europe. D-Day, The allies invade Paris.D-Day, The allies invade Paris. Allies liberate Paris by August. US capture key Japanese islands.
  • 5. The Coming to an End. • 1945, Auschwitz is liberated by the Soviets. Hitler commits suicide. Germany surrenders on 7th of May.Germany surrenders on 7th of May. US drops nukes on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Japan surrenders 14th August.
