The Technical University of Madrid (UPM) has 20 centres and 40,000 students. In 2002, UPM began establishing research groups in international development and in 2008 started developing an interdisciplinary centre for this work. In 2010, UPM launched a Master's program in Technology for Human Development and Cooperation. In 2012, the International Development group (itdUPM) was formally constituted as an interdisciplinary network of over 170 experts working on projects related to sustainability, global equity, rural development, water and sanitation, energy, ITC, business and development, and territorial management.
