  • Share of long-term unauthorized residence has increased whereas short-term has decreased.
    • Because Mexican immigrants are younger (mean age of 36.2) and more likely to be in child-baring/rearing years
    • A b out 5 million unauthorized adult immigrants (49%) are in families with minor children.
    • About 1 million unauthorized immigrants are children.
    • 4.5 million people under 18 born in the US to at least one unauthorized parent.
    • Unauthorized children have decreased since 2005 but children with unauthorized parents have doubled since 2000.
    • 9 million people in m i xed status families (at least 1 unauthorized family member & at least 1 US born child).
    • 400,000 unauthorized immigrant children with US-born siblings
    • Public opinion : 72% of all Americans support a path to citizenship for unauthorized immigrants who pass background checks, have jobs, and pay fines.
