  • 1. Direct and Indirect Speech
  • 2. • Quando falamos o que disse, conta, pedi, pergunta um a outra pessoa existe duas maneiras:• O discurso direto em inglês, chamado de direct speech – repete-se ao pé da letra a fala da pessoa. Consiste em períodos simples.• O discurso indireto em inglês, chamado de indirect speech ou reported speech – relata-se com as nossas palavras o que a pessoa falou. Consiste em período composto.
  • 3. Há duas formas de relatar o que alguém disse:• Discurso direto: Repetimos o que foi dito anteriormente.• Discurso indireto:Contamos com nossas próprias palavras o que foi dito.•
  • 4. • Exemplo:• Direct Speech - Kitty said, I’m very happy. (Kitty disse, eu estou muito feliz.)• Indirect Speech - Kitty said that she was very happy. (Kitty disse que estava muito feliz.)
  • 5. • Paula said,”I am very tired.”( direct speech)• A Paula disse, “ Estou muito cansada”.• Paula said (that) she was very tired.( Indirect speech)• A Paula disse que estava muito cansada.
  • 6. • Na oração principal empregamos os verbos:• Say ( dizer , contar)• Ask ( perguntar , pedir)• Tell e ask, geralmente, são seguidos por um nome ou pronome(objeto indireto), enquanto say pode ser seguido ou não.
  • 7. • She said ( that) she was afraid. (Ela disse que estava com medo.)• She asked me where I was going.• Ela me perguntou aonde eu ia.• She said to Peter ( that) she was afraid.• Ela disse ao Peter que estava com medo.
  • 8. • She said,”I study every day.Ela disse,”Eu estudo todo dia.”• She said (that) she studied every day.Ela disse que estudava todos os dias.• She said ,”I studied yesterday. “Ela disse, “Estudei ontem”.• She said(that) she had studied the day before.• (Ela disse que tinha estudado no dia anterior.)
  • 9. • She said, “I will study tomorrow.”(Ela disse,”Estudarei amanhã.• She said (that) she would study the following day.(Ela disse que estudaria no dia seguinte.)• She said, “ I am studying”.(Ela disse, “Estou estudando”)• She said(that) she was studying.(Ela disse que estava estudando.)
  • 10. • She said,” I am going to study.(Ela disse,”vou estudar”.)• She said (that) she was going to study.(Ela disse que ia estudar).• Modals• She said,”I can go”. She said( that) She could go.
  • 11. • Liz said, I can go. / Liz said (that) she could go.• Jane said, I may go. / Jane said (that) she might go.• Paul said, I must go. / Paul said (that) he had to go.
  • 12. • She said,”I must go”. She said(that) she might go.• She said,”I must go”.• She said (that) she had to go.
  • 13. False Questions• What,When,Where,Why,Who,Which,Whose,H ow,etc.são palavras interrogativas e podem introduzir:• A) perguntas(questions)- Where does he live?• B)Falsas perguntas(false questions)- Do you know where does he live?
  • 14. • When does he come? Do you know when he comes?• What did he say? Do you know what did he say?• What time is it? Do you know what time it is?
