  1. 1. Blog & BloggingSaroj Pandeysarojpandey.com.npBlog: weblog.sarojpandey.com.npisaroz.tumblr.comhttp://twitter.com/itscoolskyhttp://fb.com/isaroz
  2. 2. Do you remember the firsttime you heard the word“blog”? What was your original thought? OR is this your first encounter with theword?
  3. 3. Lets ask Google!Ohhh! See that Number…
  4. 4. Simple Definition A blog originally came from the word “weblog” or a“web log”. You can think of it as an online journal or diary, although blogs are used for much more now, like onlinejournalism. A blogger is someone who blogs, or writes content for ablog. Blogging is the act of writing a post for a blog. Got it? That was easy, and that’s all you might needto know to get started.
  5. 5. Lets add some “meat” on yourblogging-knowledge bones? A blog is a type of website which has posts (or entries)appearing in reverse chronological order. Blog posts typically appear with the most recent blogpost (or entry, post) first. A blog is updated frequently and regularly, althoughthere are some who are considered “slow bloggers”. Blogs have an area for people to comment or respondto the blog post.
  6. 6. … Contd. Blogs also have other areas of content and links toother websites. Blogs can have individual authors or be a collection ofauthors. Blogs have a history or an archive of previous blogposts. Not too bad, right?
  7. 7. Lets complete our Education A blog is a collection of content that is well organized. This content can take the form of basic words as wellas rich media (audio, video, and embeddable objects). A blog typically focuses on a particular subject matterfor clarity, focus, and A blog can be built by hand, manually through writing the post, uploading to awebsite, and then publishing.
  8. 8. … Contd. A blog can also be managed by software, sometimescalled a CMS (Content Management System), where alot of the features are automatically created andpopulated. A blog typically can be read in a number of differentformats including the homepage, single post page, categories, tags, and also via RSS. Readers and visitors can subscribe to the blog so thatthey can consume the content in a variety of differentmeans, tools, devices, and applications.
  9. 9. … Contd. A blog today could take the form of micro-blogging (likeTwitter, Posterous, Tumblr) and more which can focuson a particular type of content or technology. Whew. Done yet?
  10. 10. NO! I want to be super GEEK A blog can be whatever you want it to be; it‟s not aboutthe what. A blog is a collection of 1‟s and 0‟s. Everything is a blog and nothing is a blog. Blogging is what you do, what you do not do, and whatyou wish to do.
  11. 11. BUT… I don‟t care… There is no need to define „blog.‟ Was there ever was such a call to define ‘newspaper’ or‘television’ or ‘radio’ or ‘book’ — or, ‘telephone’ or‘instant messenger.’ Blog is a means of sharing information and also ofinteracting. It‟s more about conversation than content … Blogs are whatever they want to be. Blogs are whatever wemake them. Defining „blog‟ is a fool‟s errand. This time I don’t want to argue about whether blogs arejournalism.
