  • 1. INTRODUCCTION New York is the most populous city in the United States and the center of the New York Metropolitan Area, one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. A global power city, New York exerts a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, tech nology, education, and entertainment. New York is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural capital of the world.

  • 5. FOOD The cuisine of New York City comprises many cuisines belonging to various ethnic groups that have entered the United States through the city.
  • 6. SPORT  It also has the greatest concentration of professional sports teams of any region in the country with teams in all of the major sports and leagues in baseball, basketball, football, hockey, lacrosse, and s occer.
  • 7. CULTURE  The city of New York is an important center for music, film, theater, dance and visual art. Artists have been drawn into the city by opportunity, as the city government funds the arts with a larger annual budget than the National Endowment for the Arts, and New York is a major center of the global art market which grew up along with national and international media centers.
