St. Barbara Chapel (Azize Barbara Kilisesi)This cruciform chapel with three apses ismostly decorated with simple figures andsymbols in red paint on white plaster, makinga sharp contrast with the colorful figures ofmost Göreme frescoes. They may have beenpainted shortly after the 8th-centuryiconoclastic controversy.St. Barbara Chapel (Azize Barbara Kilisesi) isdated to the second hald of the 9th century.Storeroom, kitchen and dining hall of thechurch still remain nowadays.Freskos arepainted after 11th century. Pallor colors andundistinctfigures at the freskos are a sign ofan amateur studyA giant locust symbolizing evil on one wallopposes two crosses on the other, while arooster representing the devil is battled withbricks representing the Church. Other strangecreatures and shapes are more difficult tointerpret. The figurative frescoes includeChristPantocrator, St. George and the Dragon, StTheodore, and St Barbara.
