  • Interactive Strategic Principles: 2009
    • Build a global interactive business by “enabling” all Metro operations on a common technology platform
    • Create a partnership between Local Interactive Teams and HQ Interactive:
      • HQ provides central technical capability and acts as a hub for Interactive Enablement, Knowledge and Excellence
      • Local Operation owns Consumer Proposition and P&L
    • Maximise synergies and efficiencies with the newspaper
    • Seek early success with Commercial Partnerships
    • Supplement core news offering with local content, specialist applications and services that maximise synergies with the paper
  • ‘ Website in a Box’: The Proposition
  • WiB: Unique Selling Points
    • Your Voice : gives our readers the chance to interact with, comment on and discuss news and issues. ‘bloggers’ on equal footing with traditional news sources.
    • DayParting : site design evolves throughout the day. News in the morning, community and event content at night and over the weekend. New formats and schedules can be added through the editorial interface.
    • MyCity : relevant local content and interaction at the city level: restaurants, events, services, travel.
    • Dashboard: rule-based engine allows editors to put the most popular, most commented, most relevant content at the front of the site quickly and easily.
    • Circular interaction : the paper drives people to the site, which engages them, encourages their opinion, and ultimately puts them back in the paper.
    • Rich Media: users can contribute or link to videos and photos
    • Blogging: channel for less formal, opinion-oriented content integrated with the news platform
  • Publimetro Mexico: A Success Story Reached more than 1 million monthly unique visitors in just three months…
  • Mexico – www.publimetro.com.mx Source: Google Analytics Weekly Visits Daily Visits

  • New site header Editorially-controlled promo slots (120x68px and 230x68px) Editorially-controlled ‘What’s hot’ links Green-gradient masthead: - echoes the new print design - provides the page with a strong anchor

  • Latest Product Release: WiB Lite
  • What is WiB Lite? WiB Lite represents improvements in WiB’s efficiency and flexibility rather than design. In addition blogging is being re-introduced using the Word Press platform (WP) with pluggins for integrating news-portal content.
    • Lowers WiB's cost.
    • Decreases WiB country dependency on HQ & Suppliers.
    • Opens WiB for easy integration and content sharing.
    • Improves WiB’s flexibility regarding potential editorial workflows.
    • Ultimately improves WiB’s USPs to the local operation and results in an improved reading experience for the end-user.
    What does it do?
  • How does it do it?
    • Replace Omniture with Google Analytics
    • - Save significant costs.
    • - Covers KPI requirements of new online operations.
    • Eliminate MT
    • - Eliminating MT makes the system cheaper to setup and maintain.
    • RSS-I
    • - Allows for a new type of integration of partners into WiB which should decrease development resource requirements.
    • - Opens WiB as capable to effectively share Metro content.
    • Content Groups
    • - Improves flexibility of WiB offering by adding more editorial control of content feeds.
    • - Increases efficiency of generating content for WiB and partners.
    • Today Metro generates content ‘teasers’ based on media type which lacks a
    • granular level. Content grouping will add control of the various media types in
    • WiB to improve content relevance for readers.
    • Examples of more sophisticated ‘teaser’ content generation include:
        • Grouping specific bloggers
        • Grouping themes of content
        • Grouping Metro only content (i.e. articles + metro journalist blogs)
What are Content Groups? RSS-I is an RSS Importer that will facilitate easy integration of RSS feeds into WiB. This technology will also make it easy for Metro to syndicate rich content to bloggers and partner pages. What is RSS-I?
