  • 2. What is TROY?
    • TROY is the library’s online catalog
    • It is used to find materials and resources located INSIDE the library
  • 3. How are materials organized?
    • Materials are arranged in the library using the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM or (LC)
    • LC uses letters and numbers to describe subjects and where items are located on the shelves
  • 4. An LC Call Number
    • Here is an example of how a call number would look in LC
     Location: Reference  Z=General information  2014 comes after 2013 and before 2015  D comes after C and before E within the 2014 section  S comes after R and before T in the D section

    • In TROY, the LC call number is written horizontally (read from LEFT TO RIGHT)
    • On the book spine, the LC call number is written vertically (read from TOP to BOTTOM)

It's easy to exclude relevant items.   Mexico NOT New Mexico=275 articles Mexico NOT New Mexico NOT * Items containing either "caloric intake" or "diet" or both.
