Stan Jozefiak is the Practice Director and a founding member of True Partners Consulting. Prior to True Partners Consulting, he was a participating principal at Deloitte & Touche where he was a member of the firm’s national Corporate Transactions and Business Solutions Group. He spent the first 20 years of his career at Arthur Andersen and served as a participating principal in Andersen’s Chicago Tax Division. Throughout his career, he has assisted multinational corporations ranging in size from $25 million to over $50 billion of revenues in the research, development, and implementation of innovative tax structures and planning, as well as in the defense of these structures during federal and state tax examinations.
Mr. Jozefiak has extensive experience working with strategic and financial buyers in performing tax due diligence and structuring business acquisitions, combinations, divestitures, reorganizations, and bankruptcies, as well as financial instruments and strategies, including assisting non-U.S. multinationals in structuring operations and other investment decisions within the U.S.
Mr. Jozefiak has focused his practice most recently on assisting corporations and their board audit committees in evaluating the financial and reputational risks, as well as the required FIN 48 disclosures associated with various tax planning strategies and then recommending, as appropriate, disclosures, audit defense strategies, and exit alternatives. He has also prepared reports and testified as an expert witness in various trials involving complex corporate tax issues and transactions.
Currently, Mr. Jozefiak leads True Partners Consulting’s overall federal tax practice, European operations, as well as its Transaction Planning and Troubled Companies teams. He had served as the partner-in-charge of Deloitte’s captive insurance team and was a member of Andersen’s firmwide corporate transactions and operations group, environmental services practice, and the Chicago office international group. He also led Andersen’s environmental tax services practice and Midwest bankruptcy, debt relief, and workout tax team. In addition, he has contributed to several publications and has made numerous presentations to industry and professional groups.
Mr. Jozefiak received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Chicago, a Masters of Management in Accounting from the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, and a Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University School of Law. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association.
Donald Bast is a Managing Director at True Partners Consulting. He has nearly 30 years of state and local taxation experience.
Before True Partners, Mr. Bast operated his own Chicagoland area tax consulting practice. His practice focused predominantly on providing sales and use tax services to manufacturers, retailers, printers and medical providers.
Prior to his own consultancy, Mr. Bast spent 12 years working in the state and local tax practice of Arthur Andersen's Chicago office where he provided sales and use tax consulting services to multi-state and multi-national clients across the country.
Before Arthur Andersen, Mr. Bast was in the audit division of the Illinois Department of Revenue's Springfield region. During his 16 year career there, he held several positions including Auditor, Audit Supervisor and Assistant Field Audit Manager.
Mr. Bast graduated from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He was the Program Chairman for the Chicago Area Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT) group until January 2006. He is also a frequent speaker at tax conferences and seminars.
Mr. Bennecke is a Managing Director in True Partners Consulting’s Chicago office where he manages the tax compliance and consulting for large and mid-size multinational corporate entities, S Corporations, partnerships, and individuals. He has an extensive professional background, which includes over 15 years of experience in both public accounting and industry. Prior to joining True Partners Consulting, he was a Senior Manager with the Lead Tax Services practice of Deloitte Tax, LLP in Chicago. In addition to managing tax compliance and consulting for his clients, he is involved in tax due diligence, research and tax planning, audit defense, and FAS 109 Accounting for Income Taxes.
Mr. Bennecke is the Firm’s FAS 109/FIN 48 and Tax Reporting and Compliance service line leader, and is also a member of the Firm’s accounting periods and methods team. In addition to these roles, he is actively involved in the Firmwide training and recruiting initiatives.
In addition to his client service responsibilities, he is a regular speaker and contributor to organizations such as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), American Accounting Association, Tax Executives Institute (TEI), and various internal and external seminars.
Mr. Bennecke received his Bachelor of Science degree from DePaul University, and his Master of Jurisprudence degree in Business Law (Taxation focus) from Loyola University, School of Law. He is a member of The City Club of Chicago, The Chicago Tax Club, Tax Section member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA),the National Association of Tax Practitioners (NATP),and is an Enrolled Agent with the Department of Treasury—Internal Revenue Service.
Susan R. Alexander is a Managing Director in True Partners Consulting’s Chicago office. She is a federal and international tax specialist with more than 20 years experience serving multinational companies including tax planning, accounting for income taxes and tax compliance.
Prior to True Partners Consulting, Ms. Alexander held several key positions at KPMG and Arthur Andersen. She was the lead tax partner on several Firmwide key accounts at both companies and responsible for nurturing client relationships. In addition to being the first woman partner in Arthur Andersen’s Indianapolis office, she was the Tax Practice Leader for the company’s tax practice.
Ms. Alexander also previously served as the vice president of tax for Sotheby’s, Inc., the world-renowned fine art auction house. While there, she managed all aspects of the company’s tax function, including domestic and international planning as well as compliance regulations.
Ms. Alexander received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Indiana University. She is a member of the Executives Club of Chicago, the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and the Chicago Tax Club. She has served on the boards of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and WFYI public television and radio stations. She has also served as a panelist on various topics including high tech initiatives and issues related to women in business. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Indiana CPA Society, as well as the International Fiscal Association.
Jim Kane is a Managing Director and a founding member of True Partners Consulting. He specializes in assisting owners of large, complex properties effectively manage their state and local tax burden. Throughout his career, he has helped Fortune 500 and mid-sized companies identify and secure tax reduction opportunities. His clients have included major companies in the following industries: manufacturing, telecommunications, wireless, oil, commercial airlines, independent power production and public utilities. Although the primary emphasis of his career has been on property taxes, he has also assisted many clients with securing lucrative government incentives.
The majority of Mr. Kane’s career has been at large accounting firms, including 14 years at Arthur Andersen, where he served in various capacities, including partner. He has held leadership positions, overseeing practices and developing training and methodologies to enhance client service quality.
Mr. Kane received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Texas A&M University, and his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School. He is a licensed attorney in Illinois. He is also actively involved in the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, where he serves as the co-chair of the taxation committee and the chair of the property tax sub-committee, which is charged with reviewing the Cook County Property Tax System and recommending progressive changes to the current system. He has been a frequent speaker on various tax topics, including the tax implications of electric industry restructuring and has testified before state legislative bodies on tax matters in seven different states.
