What cisco catalyst 6500 & catalyst 6500 e series deliver

  1. 1. What Cisco Catalyst 6500&Catalyst 6500 E-Series Deliver? The Catalyst 6500Switchis a modular chassis network switch manufactured by CiscoSystems since 1999, capable of delivering speeds of up to 400 million packets persecond.A Cisco 6500 comprises a chassis, power supplies, one or two supervisors, line cardsand service modules. A chassis can have 3, 4, 6, 9 or 13 slots each (Catalyst model6503, 6504, 6506, 6509, or 6513, respectively) with the option of one or twomodular power supplies. The supervisor engine provides centralized forwarding information and processing;up to two of these cards can be installed in a chassis to provide active/standby orstateful failover. The line cards provide port connectivity and service modules toallow for devices such as firewalls to be integrated within the switch. To support Borderless Networks, the Cisco 6500 switches deliver high performanceand a broad feature set suitable for campus, data center, WAN, and Metro Ethernetdeployments.About Cisco 6500E Series SwitchesThe Cisco Catalyst 6500-E Series sets the new standard for IP Communications andapplication delivery in enterprise campus and service provider networks bymaximizing user productivity and enhancing operational control. As the premierintelligent, multi-layer modular Cisco switch, the Cisco 6500E Series delivers secure, converged, end-to-end services, from the wiring closet to the core network, the datacenter, and the WAN edge. The Cisco 6500-Eswitches offer enhancements to scalebeyond the 4000W power supply.Figure 1.Cisco Virtual Switching Supervisor Engine 720 Featureshttp://blog.router-switch.com/category/reviews/cisco-switches/
  2. 2. What the Cisco Catalyst 6500 E-Series delivers?Catalyst 6500 E-Series Switches support modular Cisco IOS Software to decreaseunplanned downtime and simplify software changes through in-service softwareupgrades.SecurityThe Cisco Catalyst 6500 E-Series switch integrates the Cisco Catalyst 6500 SeriesSupervisor Engine 720 and the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Adaptive Security ServiceModule to take advantage of the existing infrastructure and deliver integratedsecurity services with increased VPN session counts and efficient power consumptionin a single blade.MobilityCatalyst 6500 E-Series Wireless Service Module 2 easily integrates wired and wirelessnetworks and provides security, mobility, and redundancy for business-criticalWLANs.Network ManagementThe Cisco Catalyst 6500 E-Series Network Analysis Module 3, optimized for 10 Gbperformance, improves resource utilization, troubleshooting, and the end-userexperience.Application PerformanceCisco 6500 E-Series Application Control Engine 30 increases availability, acceleratesperformance, and enhances security.Price and Hot ModelsWS-C6506-E: Enclosure TypeDesktop - 15U FeaturesHot swap module replacement Price:List price:US$5,500.00 / Wholesale Price: US$2,915.00WS-C6509-E: Enclosure TypeDesktop - 15U FeaturesHot swap module replacement Dimensions (WxDxH)44.5 cm x 46 cm x 62.2 cm Price: List price:US$9,500.00 / Wholesale Price: US$5,035.00More Related: Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series Switches…Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series SwitchesEfficiently scale, virtualize, secure, and manage your network remotely with CiscoCatalyst 6500 Series Switches. Offering a high-performance, feature-rich platformsuitable for deployment in campus, data center, WAN, and Metro Ethernet networks, the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series provides a strong foundation for Borderless Networks,so you can connect anyone, anywhere, at any time.http://blog.router-switch.com/category/reviews/cisco-switches/
  3. 3. Scale Performance and Network Services 2 terabits per second (Tbps) fabric delivers 80 Gbps switching capacity per slot and scales to 4 Tbps system capacity with Cisco Catalyst Virtual Switching System (VSS) 40G-capable system supports up to 360 10G ports and 1068 1G ports per VSS system Supervisor Engine 2T supports up to 720 mpps of IPv4 and 390 mpps of IPv6 Provides large table sizes for scalable deployment with protected control plane.Virtual Switching System Activates all available bandwidth across redundant Catalyst 6500 systems and eliminates assymmetric routing Supports interchassis stateful failover and provides deterministic subsecond recovery Provides single point of management Eliminates need for First-Hop Resiliency Protocol (FHRP), supports simplified loop-free topologiesNetwork Virtualization Offers infrastructure consolidation by providing segmentation, path isolation, privacy, limited fate sharing, membership definition, and address space separation technologies Delivers end-to-end network virtualization using IP/MPLS technologies.Security Identifies (802.1x suite) , tags (SGT), encrypts (MacSec), and enforces (Security Group Access Control List) with Cisco TrustSec Supports network device admission control (NDAC) and endpoint admission control (EAC) Provides investment protection with ingress/egress TrustSec ReflectorIntegrates Services and Operational Efficiency Helps unify, simplify, and economize your network with next-generation integrated services modules Facilitates multiple generations of components on one chassis through a modular design Monitors switches across the network with Switched Port Analyzer (SPAN)/Remote Switched Port Analyzer (RSPAN) and virtually connects an analyzer to almost any port on the network with Encapsulated Remote SPAN (ERSPAN) Provides application visibility through flexible, egress, sampled Netflow, and CPU Preserving Netflow Exporthttp://blog.router-switch.com/category/reviews/cisco-switches/
