    • Text: James 1:19-27
    • = Uniqueness of Christianity:
    • Hebrews 3:7-8 - So, as the Holy Spirit says :  “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.

    • 1Cor 12:1-2 - Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.

    • = Christians in Progress:
    • James 1:19-20 - My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen , slow to speak and slow to become angry , for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.

    • James 1:21 - Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

    • Rev. 1:3 - Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it.

  • 9. 1. Deal with Deception in Life
    • Vs. 22 - Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says

    • James 1:13-14 - When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire , he is dragged away and enticed.

    • Vs. 23-24 - Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, … goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

    • Vs 23 - Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

    • (1) They Know their Look in a Mirror

    • 1Timothy 1:9-10 - And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by

    • the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do. NLT
  • 26. 3. Deal with Doing in Life
    • Vs. 25 - But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it

    • = How is Doing Different from Deceiving and Forgetting?
  • 28.
    • (1) Carefulness
    • Vs. 25 - But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.
  • 29.
    • (2) Continuity

    • (1) Care for Your Tongue .
    • Vs. 26 - If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.

    • Ephesians 4:29 - Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

    • (2) Care for the Needy
    • Vs. 27 - Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
