    • Top 10 Reasons Recruiters Don’t Respond And simple things you can do to change it Leslie Mason 01/19/2011
    • What we will cover today
      • Understanding the role of a recruiter
      • Top 10 reasons recruiters don’t respond and what you can do to change it
    • Our inboxes look like this… Sometimes it’s simply a matter of how quick and easy it is for us to respond to a request
    • Role of the Recruiter
      • Prime Directive: Hire the BEST possible candidate for the job! (And proactively recruit top candidates for future openings.)
      • Subject Matter Experts
      • Educate and Inform
    • Why Don’t Recruiters Call Me Back Disclaimer: This presentation has been edited for video chat use and is intended for educational purposes only. • #10 “Do you have any job openings?” So What Can You Do?
    • Help Me… Help You
      • Go to the company website and review the current openings.
      • After you have completed an online profile and applied to a specific job, send the recruiter an email with your resume attached and the requisition number of the position you applied to online.
      • They will then be able to quickly look you up in the system and forward your resume to the appropriate recruiter or hiring manager handling that requisition.
    • #9 “What do you think of my resume?” So What Can You Do?
    • Help Me… Help You
      • Send a professional resume with a T-Cover Letter outlining how you meet the job requirements.
    • Help Me… Help You
      • If you feel you need help with your resume, there are professionals to help you and you can get advice from your career networking groups
      • Prepare the best resume possible
      • Look at example resumes of others with your job
      • Match what you have done with job requirements
      • Hit the high points… be specific but don’t get lost in details
      • Have several versions of your resume available for different jobs or better yet, tweak your resume to match the job you are interested in.
    • #8 – Errors on resumes So What Can You Do? [email_address] Experence Werk History
    • Help Me… Help You
      • Two words… Spell Check!
      • Have someone else proof read your resume before sending it out
      • Create an email account specifically for your job search
      • Keep a clean, proofed resume in this account
    • #7 Resume not attached, no contact info So What Can You Do?
    • Help Me… Help You
      • Make sure your resume is attached when you forward from your mobile phone
      • Add a signature with your name, title and phone number to your mobile phone.
      • Make sure you have a copy of your resume with all your contact information included to send to specific recruiters
      • Store resume in a job search file on your mobile phone email account
    • #6 Applied to 20 job reqs-20 disciplines So What Can You Do?
    • Help Me… Help You
      • Just because the title is the same doesn’t mean it’s the same job
      • For example: a Financial Analyst is a completely different job than a Web Analyst or a GUI Java Developer is different from a Server Java Developer.
      • Take your time reading the job requisition and only apply for the jobs that match your specific skills and experience
    • #5 Will not disclose current salary So What Can You Do?
    • Help Me… Help You
      • There is really no way around this question
      • We need it to move you forward in the process
      • Hiring Managers require it
      • Give us your current salary, base and bonus and we will take into consideration the position level, location, what you would leave behind.
    • #4 Angry when denied interview So What Can You Do?
    • Help Me… Help You
      • Our responsibility is to hire the best candidate for the job
      • There may be another job we have in mind for you
      • There may be someone else more qualified than you
      • You’re a Rock Star but… it’s the Hiring Managers Decision
    • #3 “Can you meet me for a cup of coffee?” So What Can You Do?
    • Help Me… Help You
      • Remember the slide about our Inbox everything else we do on a daily basis?
      • If we accepted every one of these requests we literally would look like this guy!
      • Be respectful of our time… a concise and clear email will go a lot farther.
    • #2 Clearly doesn’t match job requirements So What Can You Do?
    • Help Me… Help You
      • Every job has specific requirements that are “must haves” and there is no getting around them.
      • Carefully read the requirements of the job
      • Make sure you have all the necessary requirements before you apply
      • Don’t apply for jobs if you don’t meet the minimum requirements
      • Don’t get “creative” with your skills or experience, it always comes out.
    • #1 This is your LinkedIn profile picture So What Can You Do?
    • Help Me… Help You
      • Always chose a professional profile picture for your social media accounts, especially LinkedIn and Facebook. These are the first places recruiters go to check you out.
      • The way you handle your job search directly reflects on the way you will perform your job.
      • Channel your inner Rock Star
      • And Remember… sometimes you just need more cowbell
