Presentation Super Mario

 1. 1. Short presentation of Super Mario World ”Based on my written analysis”

Writer: Pontus Björinder

Course: Introduction to game design

2009-05-30

 2. 2. Content

The game: Super Mario World

Nintendo and the plattforming genre

Subtopics in my analysis

Conclusion

 3. 3. The game: Super Mario World

The game was released together with the Super Nintendo console in 1992 in Europe.

The fourth game in the Super Mario series to be released.

A side scrolling plat former taking place in a wider and more diverse world than seen in previous games.

 4. 4.

New playable characters and a wider range of enemies

Two dimensional world, with more depth thanks to multiple backgrounds

One of the most innovative and ground braking games in gaming history.

 5. 5. Nintendo and the plattforming genre

Nintendo has been one of the biggest companies within gaming ever since they released the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1983.

Nintendo has released a number of famous titles through the years, such as Zelda and Super Mario.

In the beginning one of the underlaying reasons for nintendo consoles success was the innovative technical aspects of the machine.

 6. 6. The dual structure of Super Mario World

Dualism in video games is something very common and important.

It means there are both real and fictional aspects in a game.

The rules in the game are real to the player even though the world you are playing in is strictly fictional.

Thanks to these rules the player feels as he himself interacts with the fictional world and winning or loosing becomes a real event.

 7. 7. The game and Nintendo from a historical point of view

Both Super Mario Bros and Super Mario World established the standards for side scrolling platforming games.

Super Mario 64 that was released in 1998 was the first game ever taking Mario into a three dimensional world.

Super Mario and Zelda are the most important games created during the last 20 years.

Nintendo creates fun and lovable games and do not concentrate solely on graphics and realism.

 8. 8. Conclusion I think it has been an interesting and rewarding experience writing this analysis and creating this short presentation. Lastly I will just summon up what I feel I have learned, and share some of my own thoughts regarding this analysis.

It has been fun getting to play this classic game once again. And maybe todays game developers should get some inspiration from this time. When games where less complicated but still had more content and heart than many of todays games.

Nintendo as a company has been on top for over 20 years and one can only hope that they keep reinventing themselves so that it can stay that way.
