Introduction to the cooperation between ECNU and foreign countries
ECNU(East China Normal University) is the headquarters for Hanban’s teaching Chinese as a foreign language program, and many international Chinese teachers have been educated and trained here.
In recent years, ECNU has trained about 1000 Chinese teachers from all over the world who are recruited by Hanban, Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council and some other governments and schools.
We also have trained more than 130 headmasters of different Chinese schools from 18 countries.

ECNU has a three-year joint
project with NYU that brings
ECNU students to do an MA
in TCFL (Teaching Chinese
as a Foreign Language) at NYU and then these students are certified to teach in American public schools

Training the in-service K-12 teachers from the US
More than 50 American Chinese teachers Collaboration with College Board
Chinese Institute in America 2007/2008 About 40 American teachers 3 semesters 36 credits Several teachers have received an Initial or Professional Certificate These teachers who both received the Certificate to teach Chinese as a foreign language in New York State and passed the ECNU entrance exam can also apply for an MA of Chinese language and literature at ECNU
“ Mayor Program” ——Shanghai-Chicago Chinese Teaching Cooperation Program 2005
Shanghai and Chicago are “friendly cities”, and this program is signed by the mayor of Shanghai Municipality and of Chicago
The program aims to send 100 teachers to Chicago public schools to teach Chinese in elementary or middle school
31 teachers have taken part in this training program The first 5 teachers have been to the US and have been extremely successful

These volunteer teachers have been teaching Chinese or have initiated Chinese programs in elementary and middle schools in the US

University of Central Arkansas 2007-2009 12 volunteer teachers
Enrollment in this program allows a candidate with a bachelor’s degree or higher to be employed as a classroom teacher while completing the necessary requirements for an Initial Arkansas Teaching License.
The program is a two-year preparation track which includes assessments, teaching and portfolio development
Upon successful completion of the program, participants receive an Initial Arkansas teaching license. If Praxis III(Praxis I is English grammar and writing exam; Praxis II is the math exam) is successfully completed, participants will receive a Standard Arkansas Teaching License.
Chicago Public Schools
Every summer, Chicago public schools send high school students to ECNU
Through teaching practice, ECNU students have gradually trained to be qualified Chinese teachers in American situation
