  • WelcomeIdentify types of people in the roomSet goal for the session:Provide them with an overview of a tool that will accelerate journey to becoming global schoolWill do this through:Setting contextGiving background of our experience and field researchSetting the targetExamining the complexityLooking and interacting with the frameworkCharting the key processSampling the contentParticipating in a piece of the processLooking at the online versionQuestions and Answers
  • Description of change and continual growthChange is a process not an event – CBAM researchGlobal School Journey like my weight – I have read every thing I can and must convert my knowledge to actionIt truly takes timeOne role of Asia Society PGL to, based on our research and experience, to develop tools and services that will assist schools, districts, states to create schools that graduate globally competent studentsThe tool we have created serves as a sign post along the journeyOnly a tool – important the way it is used
  • Based on the question – How global were our ISSN schools?Created journey map known as our matrix which was a framework for creating a “global school”Then created site visit process to collect evidence on matrix – describeClear that conceptually the schools within the PGL could benefit from this type of work. Needed to make it more widely availableCulled the most high leverage areas from our matrix. Vetted it with diverse group of outsiders – CPRE, University folks, Goldman Sachs prize winning educators, other experts in the fieldCreated an online version – but more about that later.
  • Start with the goal in mindHave them suggest answers to the question – what is global competence??Pair discuss first and then popcorn answers – Set up Rules – Will you finish your conversation – May I have your attentionImportant to keep this in mind as the targetAfter they have done this
  • As we began our work, it was apparent that this process of graduating globally competent students was complex. Many combinations of factors work together on this journeySchools emphasize ones that they see as achievable – but must move beyond – What? So What? What Next?
  • As with any needs assessment, the process is critical!Emphasize the process and the actions - re-informing the studyTalk about what might go on in the study and the dialogue sections of the process
  • Emphasize importance of rubric as part of journey – also that schools will have strengths in different domains at different times.Hand out sample assessment
  • Have them fill out the sample by circling the numberHave a conversation with partner – people at table regarding their choicesMean – Standard Deviation
  • Demo Preview an Assessment first so they make the connectionDemo a report – sign in as judyasadmin Use Coaches Academy as the Preview and then the reportEmphasize that presently the tool is for secondary schools. Talks abound about a district version, state version, afterschool version and of course elementary version.
