2. The war fought from May 31 to
June 12 1864.It was dangerous.
There were many deaths .
3. The Union had 13,000 casualties
and about 1,800 were fatal. On
May 31, Sheridan’s cavalry
seized the vital crossroads of
Old Cold Harbor. Early on June
1, relying heavily on their new
repeating carbines and shallow
entrenchments, Sheridan’s
troopers threw back an attack
by Confederate infantry.

The Virginia Colony became the
wealthiest and most populated
British colony in North America. The
colony was dominated by elite
planters who were also in control of
the established Anglican Church.
Baptist and Methodist preachers
brought the Great Awakening,
welcoming black members and
leading to many evangelical and
racially integrated churches.
6. Campaign: Grant’s
Overland Campaign
It was one of the most
sanguinary struggles of the
great Civil War. The Nationals
had a fearful loss of life, but
firmly held their position, with all
their munitions of war. Their loss
in this engagement, and in the
immediate vicinity of Cold
Harbor, was reported at
13,153, of whom 1,705 were
killed and 2,406 were missing.
7. When Arrived
Confederate reinforcements arrived from
Richmond and from the Totopotomoy Creek
lines. Late on June 1, the Union VI and XVIII
Corps reached Cold Harbor and assaulted the
Confederate works with some success.
