HALLOWEEN <ul><li>Halloween is a night for dressing up , telling ghost stories , having spooky parties , trick-or-treating and pumpkin carving . </li></ul><ul><li>What most people don't know is that Halloween is actually based on an ancient Celtic holiday known as Samhain (pronounced &quot;sow wan&quot;), which means &quot;summer's end&quot;. </li></ul>
  3. 3. It was the end of the Celtic year, starting at sundown on October 31st and going through to sundown November 1st. On this magical night, jack-o-lanterns , carved from turnips or gourds, were set on porches and in windows to welcome deceased loved ones , but also to act as protection against malevolent spirits.

  6. 6. STEP 1: Get the pumpkin and the tools <ul><li>PUMPKIN </li></ul><ul><li>TOOLS </li></ul><ul><li>- Knife and awl </li></ul><ul><li>- Spoon </li></ul><ul><li>- Gloves </li></ul><ul><li>- Template </li></ul><ul><li>- Black Marker </li></ul><ul><li>- Candle and light </li></ul>
  7. 7. STEP 2: Cut out the top with a knife
  8. 8. STEP 3: Put your gloves on and scrape out the inside with a spoon
  9. 9. STEP 4: Draw a pattern with a marker
  10. 10. STEP 5: Transfer the pattern
  11. 11. STEP 6: Draw the pattern by pinning it with the awl
  12. 12. STEP 7: Remove the pattern and connect dots with a marker
  13. 13. STEP 8: Carve with a knife following the lines
  14. 14. STEP 9: Light a candle and put it inside the pumpkin
