Lourdes García Arredondo FOREST FIRES IN RUSSIA (2010)In 2010, from late July to mid-August, there was a serie of forest fires in Russia. It was caused due to the high temperatures (the hottest summer ever registered there) and the drought.
That summer, temperatures reached 35ºC,which is anomalous for this country, becausenormally, the higher ones are about 30ºC.Some days later, at several regions there wasa temperature between 38-40ºC. Then, thoseones were increasingly reaching the west partof Russia.On 11th July, the record ever recognizedhappened: temperatures reached 44ºC.
7 regions were in a state of emergencybecause of the fire, while 28 other regionswere also like that because of bad harvests.520 fires affected 188,500 hectares. Therewere around 150 people died and a lot ofinjures ones.It’s stimated that the fire has cost about 15billion dollars in damages.
