2. 2. INDEX 1.PREHISTORY 1.CLASSICAL PERIOD 2.MIDDLE AGE 3.FROM THE AMERICA DISCOVER TO THE ACTUALLITY 4.CONCLUSIONS
 3. 3. 1.1-THE CLASSICAL PERIOD: GREEKS AND FENICIANS

During the classical period, Greeks and Fenicians founded many colonies like Gadir.

Near our Baza there is an important archaeological site in Galera.

 4. 4. 1.2-THE ROMAN EMPIRE

In the 2 nd Century before Christ, the Romans disembarked in the Peninsula. The colonization of Andalusia was very fast.

The most important archeological site in Andalusia is Itálica (Seville).

 5. 5. 2.1-The Visigothic Kingdoms (V Century to VIII Century): The Roman Empire surrenders to the Barbarians.

It was a dark period in the West of Europe, but most of the people wanted to free themselves from the Romans.

 6. 6. 2.2THE BYZANTINES

A few years after the Visigothic occupation, during Justiniano’s reign, the Byzantine Empire occupied Andalusia.

 7. 7. 2.3.1THE ARRIVAL OF THE ISLAM: THE DEPENDENT EMIRATE

In 711, Arabians and Berbers arrived in Andalusia moved by their new religion: the Islam. They defeated Visigoth easily, but they lost against the Frankish king Charles Martel, in 732.

They founded the Emirate of Córdoba, that was dependent of Damascus Caliphs (Omeyas).

 8. 8. 2.3.2THE INDEPENDENT EMIRATE

During the VIII Century, the Omeya's Dinasty was defeated by the Abasies. The unique survivor of the Omeyas took refuge in Al-Andalus. He reigned with the name of Abd al-Rahman I.

He broke the politic relation with the Caliphate in Bagdag but he continues being their spritual leader.

 9. 9. 2.3.3-THE GREAT CALIPHATE OF CORDOBA

When Al-Andalus started to collapse, a new hope appeared: the first Spanish Caliph was called Abd al-Rahman, the Third. He unified Al-Andalus and defeated the Christian Kingdoms. It was the best period of Al- Andalus.

 10. 10. 3.3.4-THE TAIFAS KINGDOMS

After the best period of Al-Andalus, the Caliphate disappeared because of the internal conflicts.

Many little states formed.

They were so little to defend their territories and the Christian Kingdoms won many battles.

 11. 11. 3.3.5-THE KINGDOM OF GRANADA, THE LAST BASTION OF THE ISLAM

2 centuries after the Christians crossed Sierra Morena, the Taifa Kingdom of Granada continued resisting. But because of the Sucesion War, Granada surrendered and the last king of Granada, Boabdil, handed over the keys to the Catholic Queen and King.

The same year that this happened, America was discovered.

 12. 12. 4.FROM THE AMERICA DISCOVERY TO THE PRESENT DAYS

4.1

Since the discovery of America,

Andalusia and more exactly Seville was an important city in the commerce with the Spanish Empire thanks to its river port, known as “Puerto de las Indias”.

 13. 13. 4.2(17-18)

Andalusia like all the rest of Spain goes through hard times because of the difficult situation of the Spanish economy.

 14. 14. 3.3(19) ‏

The situation in Andalusia doesn’t change in the 18 th century or in the 19 th century but in 19 th century a war took place in Spain. This war was called “Guerra de la Independencia”. In Andalusia there was a big battle “Bailén battle” and also the Andadalusians helped to achieve the independence of Spaniards from the French. It was also in Andalusia where another very important event took place: “Las Cortes de Cádiz” that practised the democratic government of Spain (while they fought for independence).

 15. 15. 3.4 (20) ‏

In the 20 th century the civil war took place in Spain, also in Andalusia. Andalusia suffers a lot. Then in Spain a dictatorial regime settles down.

 16. 16. 3.5 (emigrations in 20th) ‏

Later in Andalusia two big emigrations occur. One after the war and the other one in the 60’s when people emigrate to Europe trying to find a better life.

 17. 17. THE END Andalusia has had a history full of conflicts and changes but things have improved, and now Andalusia is a community with a big future.
