  • AN INCREASING MILITARY PRESENCE IN NORTHERN AUSTRALIA Increased US Forces Presence • US Air Force – Increased number of exercises in NT • US Marine Corps – Annual six month rotations building up to a force of 2500 Marines JCC Division : Integrating the Future Joint Force
  • AN INCREASING MILITARY PRESENCE IN NORTHERN AUSTRALIA Current US Forces Initiative Status • 200 Marine Rotation in 2012 demonstrated NT ability to host Marines • Further Marine Rotation in 2013 demonstrated feasibility of large ‘live fire’ exercises at Bradshaw SW of Darwin JCC Division : Integrating the Future Joint Force
  • AN INCREASING MILITARY PRESENCE IN NORTHERN AUSTRALIA 2014 US Marines Rotation • • • • Decision announced by Government to increase the 2014 Rotation to around 1150 Marines Accommodated at Robertson barracks and RAAF Darwin Will include 4 heavy lift helicopters Increased opportunities for combined training and deepening interoperability JCC Division : Integrating the Future Joint Force

  • AN INCREASING MILITARY PRESENCE IN NORTHERN AUSTRALIA Possible Business Opportunities • Recreation activity support • Increased use of Defence contractors and sub contractors However; • • Whilst there will be a significant increase in US Marine equipment, vehicles etc, the USMC will bring maintenance and support personnel, stores and spare parts This may limit opportunities for commercial maintenance of USMC vehicles and other equipment JCC Division : Integrating the Future Joint Force
