    UVI Library Virtual Tour - St. Thomas Campus - Presentation Transcript

    1. Library Building
      • Situated at the north end of the St. Thomas Campus is the Ralph M. Paiewonsky Library .  It is found just past the Business Administration [left] and Teacher Education [right] Buildings.
    2. Front Door
      • The main entrance is accessible via steps to the left, or a ramp to the right.  These solid, wooden doors stay open to meet your information and research needs during the following hours:
      • Monday through Thursday from 8am-10pm
      • Friday from 8am-8pm
      • Saturday from 9am-5pm
      • Sunday from 1pm-8pm
    3. About Ralph M. Paiewonsky
      • The memorial plaque to the left of the front door bears the name Ralph M. Paiewonsky, the sixteenth governor of the United States Virgin Islands.  Elected in 1961, education was a significant part of his platform and he saw to the establishment of the College of the Virgin Islands the following year.  In 1969, this library was named in his honor.
    4. Entrance
      • As you pull the glass door to walk in, this is what you will see.  Note that entrance is through the left turnstile and exit is to your right.  In keeping with local traffic in the U.S.V.I., please ‘drive’ on the left.
      • From the moment you enter these doors, please be advised that the following rules apply:
      • Cellular phones may only be used without sound. That means ringers must be turned off or set to vibrate and you may silently send/receive text messages.  There is  NO TALKING   ALLOWED ON CELLULAR PHONES within the library
      • NO eating or drinking , with the ONLY exception being water in a reclosable container
      • Voices must be kept to minimal volume to avoid disturbing others
      • Also, you have the right to ask others around you to observe the rules above if you are aware of non-compliant individuals.  Because this is a shared space, everyone should be considerate of fellow users. 
    5. Service Desk
      • After passing through the turnstile, the ITS Service Desk is immediately to your right. You can reach the Help Desk by calling x1466 , or by sending an email to [email_address] . There will always be someone here to assist you with the following:
      • circulation services: checking out/returning library materials (including books, course reserves, laptops, cameras [still and video])
      • taking photos for your ID card and renewing the library barcode
      • inter-library loan , [faculty] library purchase request and course reserve forms
      • access to two (2) individual-use study rooms
      • re-setting passwords for locked accounts
      • adding money to your printing account
      • help with campus wireless internet access, and more.
