  1. 1. Three-piece Intrusion Arch www.indiandentalacademy.com
  2. 2. Three piece intrusion arch • • • Introduced by Shroff, Lindhauer and Burstone, AJO 1995. Intrusion and retraction of anterior teeth, thereby enhancing space closure. Consists of: – Posterior segment – Anterior segment – Intrusive cantilever spring www.indiandentalacademy.com
  3. 3. • Anterior segment with posterior extension – runs through the four incisors and canines – It is bent gingivally distal to the laterals and then bent horizontally creating a step of approximately 3 mm – Distal part extends to distal end of canine bracket where it forms a hook – 0.021 X 0.025 SS • Posterior segment – Adapted into the molars and premolars – 0.017 X 0.025 TMA – TPA can be given for more consolidation www.indiandentalacademy.com
  4. 4. • Cantilever or Intrusion spring – First the wire is bent gingivally mesial to the molar tube and a helix is formed. – On the mesial end of the spring a hook is made which is attached to the anterior segment – Activation is done by making a bend mesial to the helix at the molar tube and then cinched back and attached to the anterior segment causing anterior intrusion and extrusion of the molars – A chain elastic can be attached from the hook of anterior segment to the molar tube to facilitate simultaneous intrusion and retraction of the anteriors www.indiandentalacademy.com
  5. 5. When the intrusive force is moved mesially and a small distal force is added, the resultant force intrudes the incisors along the long axis. The intrusive force may be moved lingually to the center of resistance of the anterior teeth and redirected parallel to the long axis of the anterior teeth using a small distal force. This creates a larger moment to tip the anterior teeth lingually. www.indiandentalacademy.com
