2. 9 Cake Baking Mistakes You Don’t Know
You Were Making
I have been asked over and over again by new
bakers why their cake is flat, why it tastes
different each time they bake it and many more
similar questions. Hence I decided to put
together “ 9 Baking mistakes you don’t know you
were making”. I hope this helps you to look at the
obvious and enhance your baking experience.

3. Go Through The Recipe Thoroughly
• Now you may say that this is obvious. Everyone
would read the recipe before preparing for
baking. But we recommend not just reading but
going through it very carefully. It is like a grammar
test; get the right meaning of the punctuations in
the recipe.
• For E.g.: “1 cup of walnuts, chopped” is different
from “1cup of chopped walnuts”. You see!

4. Check The Temperature Of Your
Ingredients
• Not Waiting for the Butter or Eggs to Come to
Room Temperature, or melting it by slightly
heating is not gonna work, be cautious as using
them cold from the fridge or softened from the
microwave can ruin your cakes. Room
temperature butter and egg are very crucial to
the creaming process (with sugar) that provides
the fluffy and tender texture to the baked goods.

5. Check If They Are Fresh And Not
Expired
• Check the expiration date on your Baking soda,
Baking powder, yeast, etc., if you want your cake
to rise properly. Use fresh and good quality
ingredients as cheap ingredients may be great for
the pockets but not where taste matters.

6. Measure Accurately
• If you do not measure your ingredients well, it
will make your baking a bit difficult for you. For
example, if you take too much flour that could
turn out your cake into a hard form. Therefore,
you have to be very careful in measuring all your
ingredients are in exact proportion before you
mix them for baking.

7. Check The Temperature Of Your Oven
• When baking, it’s important for the oven to be at
the right temperature before you put anything in
it.. so don’t forget to preheat your oven. Do not
trust your oven temperature on what it shows,
those displays aren’t 100% accurate. Instead use
an oven thermometer to ensure accurate
heating. Ovens also have hot spots, so get to
know where those things are and rotate as
needed.

8. Under/Over Mixing The Batter
• Over beating the cake batter may fall and make it
tough, or have a cracked crust; under-beating the
cake may bake unevenly, have tunnels and holes,
or even have a wet texture. If a light and fluffy
baked cake is what you’re after, keep gently
beating until all ingredients have been
incorporated; no more, no less.

9. Pick A Correct Baking Pot
• We're not done with baking just yet! It is very
important to choose a correct baking pot for your
cake to come out at its best. I suggest getting
your cake baked in an aluminum pan.

10. Have Patience Don’t Open Your Oven
Often
• This is especially for the very curious ones who
can’t resist checking the oven too many times!
Opening the oven door releases enough hot air to
change the oven temperature, which can be the
cause for an undercooked or unevenly baked
cake.

11. Cake Is Ready! Wait! Let It Cool.
• Now once all has come out well don’t rush to get
a bite of what and how the cake has turn out, let
it cool down completely. Here’s what you should
do, Let it sit in the pan until the top feels firm for
approximately 20 minutes and then transfer it to
a cooling rack and let it cool to a room
temperature. Don’t you put it in the fridge to try
to speed up the cooling process
