  • 2. Enable Search Engine FriendlyUrlsEnable Path module which comes with coreinstallation but is disabled by default. Pathmodule will convert /node?q=1 urls to /node/1
  • 3. Install Pautauto ModuleInstall pathauto module too which allows you tocreate search engine friendly urls. PathAutomodule offers various settings like removingcharacters like a,an,the as well as to write yourown custom paths using tokens.
  • 4. Install Global RedirectModuleGlobal Redirect module takes care of thecanonical url problems as well as it do 301redirect from urls like /node/1 to /node/my-name
  • 5. Fix Robots.txtDrupal has default robots.txt which ideally youshould edit it but you can also install robots.txtmoduleDo note that you need to remove/rename the default robots.txt fileif you are using the module.
  • 6. Redirect WWW to non WWW (orvice versa)Checkhttps://github.com/drupal/drupal/blob/7.x/.htaccess , drupal comes with .htaccess file, you canedit it to get www to non www or vice versa
  • 7. Avoid URL duplicationCanonical urls are example.com/my-name andexample.com/my-name/ which are two differenturls pointing to same content which can oftenbe considered as duplicate content.Global Redirect Module takes care ofCanonical url problem!
  • 8. Install Path Redirect ModuleIf you are changing url of an older page say/older-page to /newer-page, you don’t wantolder page to give 404 page not found error andwant it to 301 redirect to the new page. This canbe done with Path_Redirect module
  • 9. Install Metatag Module for Titleand DescriptionInstall Metatag plugin (for Drupal 7) ornodewords plugin (for drupal 6) which will takecare of Title and Description Meta tags
  • 10. No Index forCategories, tags, TaxonomyIf you are using tags, category or taxonomy, youprobably want to avoid them getting indexed ingoogle specially if the content is not very usefulUse Robots.txt to block such urls
  • 11. Install SEOTools for SEOChecklistDo install SEOTools and SEO Checklist moduletoo. Both modules will help you to keep thingsOrganized.
  • 12. Install XMLSitemap and SiteMapModulesUse xmlsitemap module which creates a Sitemapof all the urls (depending on the settings) andalso submit it to the search engines.
