Overview About IMIA - the International Medical Informatics Association Governance and Membership WG and SIGs, Yearbook and Journals Strategic Plan, 'Towards IMIA 2015' Invitation to Participate in IMIA Activities
About IMIA 1967 - established as Technical Committee 4 of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP). 1979 - evolved from a Special Interest Group of IFIP to current status as a fully independent organization. IMIA continues to maintain its relationship with IFIP as an affiliate organization. IMIA has close ties with the World Health Organization (WHO) as a NGO (Non Government Organization), and with the International Federation of Health Records Organizations (IFHRO)
About IMIA The basic aims of IMIA shall be: - to advance international cooperation; - to stimulate research, development and routine application; - to move informatics from theory into practice in a full range of settings, from physician’s office to acute and long term care; and - to further the dissemination and exchange of knowledge, information and technology.
About IMIA The IMIA 'family' of members: Member Societies - >50 Working Groups and Special Interest Groups - 20 Academic Institutional Members - >50 Corporate Institutional Members - 12 Regions; Corresponding Members (>75 in 35 countries); Affiliates .... Member societies represent 50,000 members on all continents
About IMIA IMIA: NOT an individual membership organisation in same way as SEIS, AMIA, etc. But an 'association of associations' - acts as a 'bridging organisation' to bring together the members of the global health and biomedical informatics communities (further information: Fernando Martin Sanchez, VP Membership)

Towards IMIA 2015 The IMIA Strategic Plan: 'Towards IMIA2015' - sets out a vision, guiding principles and strategic goals for IMIA. Process started in 2003, under leadership of IMIA President Nancy Lorenzi. Plan adopted in 2007.
Towards IMIA 2015 Vision IMIA will provide leadership and expertise to the multidisciplinary health focused community and policy makers to enable the transformation of healthcare in accord with the world-wide vision to improve the health of the world population.
Towards IMIA 2015 IMIA will fulfil its vision by: - Being the scientific informatics association through which the world’s knowledge leaders come together to effectively and efficiently create, assemble, integrate, synthesize or assimilate intellectual knowledge that is required worldwide to advance biomedical informatics in its role of improving health and healthcare. - Being the informatics association that effectively and efficiently connects people and the nations of the world to be able to accomplish the above purpose.
Towards IMIA 2015 IMIA’s Strategic Framework Model 'rainbow umbrella' - five concentric circles - six pie sectors
Towards IMIA 2015 Connectivity Strategic Goal IMIA will be recognized as an inclusive global association that connects groups and individuals at the leading edge of the state of the art of the field of health and biomedical informatics, within and without the IMIA community, in order to advance, develop and disseminate the (art and) science of informatics in support of health.
