  3. 3. The Initiative ➔ This PIMS project was initiated by Dr. Thusith Gunawardane. ➔ It was developed in my free time. ➔ We named it Neerogi. The name might change. ➔ Published on the internet as an open source software project: http://github.com/neerogi ➔ Initially being used at Base Hospital Wathupitiwala, Sri Lanka.

Advantages of Using A PIMS ➔ Quick access to patient information. ➔ Improved data collection ➔ Increased staff productivity ➔ Increased patient satisfaction with services ➔ Improved communication between departments ➔ Quality of care ➔ Reduced medical errors ➔ More efficient use of staff time

Aggregated Patient Data ➔ A PIMS could analyze patient data in an aggregated manner. ➔ For an example patient data could be summarized in different medical specialities and analyze results. ➔ The results could highlight various aspects of medical specialities. ➔ Based on gender, age groups, regions, time period, etc. ➔ This technology is called BIG Data in IT.
