Cataloque Description As in The Study Plan:
This course provides an appreciation of the problems of the software industry and the
models and methods of development used to develop large or complex systems. The
course introduces a number of quantitative and qualitative tools and techniques used in
modeling and managing a development life cycle. The student will learn about the
early stages of development (feasibility study, requirements analysis, and systems
analysis and design). As well as to develop a more detailed understanding of systems
analysis and design within the context of a particular method (Object Oriented
Analysis and Design OOAD) including discussion and Description of system
specification in major modeling techniques of Unified Modeling Language (UML):
(Use Case Model, Activity Diagram, Sequence Diagram, Collaboration Diagram, and
Class Diagram.
Course Main Objectives:
This course aims to develop the students’ ability to plan, analyze, design,
implement, validate, and maintain computerized information systems. Specifically,
the course will:
Develop the students' skills of identifying and selecting information systems
development projects and using different selection criteria
Introduce approaches and models for information systems analysis and design
Highlight and integrate the methodologies, techniques, and tools needed to
produce and maintain information systems.
Course Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs):
As such, after completing this course the student should be able to:
Objectively identify and select information systems development projects
Be able to conduct feasibility studies, create plans and schedules for information
systems and projects
Be able to understand and use the different software development
methodologies

General Policies for the Course: The University adopts a number of general policies
that the students must comply with:
A) Lecture Management
1- MEU is a distinguished university with an outstanding reputation. The students have to

2- Students must absorb the course objectives and their significance from the first day of
attendance, in order to work on achieving them throughout the course.
3- Faculty members encourage students to inquiry and discussion, thus, students are to make
the best of it to maximize their educational attainment.
4- Students are not allowed to leave classrooms during lectures except for compelling
conditions.
B) Scientific Honesty
The university prohibits students from following any actions inconsistent with the scientific
honesty, such as cheating in exams whether by giving or receiving information, or
submitting assignments done by others. In case of breach of this sort, the student will be
subject to the effective university punishment, which he should be well aware of.
C) Late Attendance or Absence for Lectures
1- Students attending the lecture more than 10 minutes late will be marked as "late attendant",
and every four late attendances will be count one day absence.
2- Students attending the lecture more than 20 minutes late will be allowed to enter the
classroom but will be marked as "absent".
3- If absences exceed 15% of the lectures, the student will be deprived from the course, and
will get the university zero mark for the course.
D) Absence from Exams
1- Absentees from a short test (quiz) will not be allowed for a make-up test.
2- Official excuses for missing any exam must be provided to the lecturer for the appropriate
actions to be taken.
3- Special forms designed for absence from final exams are available at the Admission and
Registration Department. The Dean of the related course must be provided with these forms
by the student within seven days from the date of the missed exam, in order to take the
appropriate action.
4- Medical excuses must be officially signed and stamped by the Medical Department at the
university.
5- All make up exams will be given only once during the same semester.
6- Make up for final exams of a certain course must take place during the first two weeks of the
following semester.
7- No excuse will be accepted in case of failing to attend the make up exam, there will be no
other chance for another make up exam.
E) Additional Instructions
1- Cell phones must be turned off during lectures. Cell phones are prohibited during lectures
and exams.
2- Students should use scientific references and do extra reading for the courses.
3- Students should hand over their assignments within the exact time.
4- In case of absence or late registration for the course, the student is fully responsible for the
follow up and understanding of the missed lecture.
5- The student is advised to keep copies of his assignments as a reference and academic record
for himself.

Course Syllabus – Master Programs Course Name: INFORMATION SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT No. of Credit Hrs: 3 Room No.: B 102 Prerequisite Name: Faculty: Information Technology Year: 2010 Instructor Name: Dr. Hebah H. O. Nasereddin Faculty: Information Technology e-mail: hnasereddin@meu.edu.jo Office Hours: 12-01 Sat ,1-3 Mon Course Number: 0402722 Lecture Time:01 -04 Sat Prerequisite Number: Department: CIS Semester: First Office Number: C 402 Department: Computer Information System Cataloque Description As in The Study Plan: This course provides an appreciation of the problems of the software industry and the models and methods of development used to develop large or complex systems. The course introduces a number of quantitative and qualitative tools and techniques used in modeling and managing a development life cycle. The student will learn about the early stages of development (feasibility study, requirements analysis, and systems analysis and design). As well as to develop a more detailed understanding of systems analysis and design within the context of a particular method (Object Oriented Analysis and Design OOAD) including discussion and Description of system specification in major modeling techniques of Unified Modeling Language (UML): (Use Case Model, Activity Diagram, Sequence Diagram, Collaboration Diagram, and Class Diagram. Course Main Objectives: This course aims to develop the students’ ability to plan, analyze, design, implement, validate, and maintain computerized information systems. Specifically, the course will: Develop the students' skills of identifying and selecting information systems development projects and using different selection criteria Introduce approaches and models for information systems analysis and design Highlight and integrate the methodologies, techniques, and tools needed to produce and maintain information systems.
  • 2. Course Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs): As such, after completing this course the student should be able to: Objectively identify and select information systems development projects Be able to conduct feasibility studies, create plans and schedules for information systems and projects Be able to understand and use the different software development methodologies Understand the role of CASE tools in software projects, and be able to use them Use the various techniques needed in software development phases REFERENCES: Main References: The Required text for this course is: Modern systems analysis & Design, 4th edition, J. • 5. General Policies for the Course: The University adopts a number of general policies that the students must comply with: A) Lecture Management 1- MEU is a distinguished university with an outstanding reputation. B) Scientific Honesty The university prohibits students from following any actions inconsistent with the scientific honesty, such as cheating in exams whether by giving or receiving information, or submitting assignments done by others. In case of breach of this sort, the student will be subject to the effective university punishment, which he should be well aware of. C) Late Attendance or Absence for Lectures 1- Students attending the lecture more than 10 minutes late will be marked as "late attendant", and every four late attendances will be count one day absence. 2- Students attending the lecture more than 20 minutes late will be allowed to enter the classroom but will be marked as "absent". 3- If absences exceed 15% of the lectures, the student will be deprived from the course, and will get the university zero mark for the course. D) Absence from Exams 1- Absentees from a short test (quiz) will not be allowed for a make-up test. 2- Official excuses for missing any exam must be provided to the lecturer for the appropriate actions to be taken. 3- Special forms designed for absence from final exams are available at the Admission and Registration Department. The Dean of the related course must be provided with these forms by the student within seven days from the date of the missed exam, in order to take the appropriate action. 4- Medical excuses must be officially signed and stamped by the Medical Department at the university. 5- All make up exams will be given only once during the same semester. 6- Make up for final exams of a certain course must take place during the first two weeks of the following semester. 7- No excuse will be accepted in case of failing to attend the make up exam, there will be no other chance for another make up exam. E) Additional Instructions 1- Cell phones must be turned off during lectures. Cell phones are prohibited during lectures and exams. 2- Students should use scientific references and do extra reading for the courses. 3- Students should hand over their assignments within the exact time. 4- In case of absence or late registration for the course, the student is fully responsible for the follow up and understanding of the missed lecture. 5- The student is advised to keep copies of his assignments as a reference and academic record for himself. 6- Faculty member provides students with feedback about assignments and tests. 7- Objection on final exam result is limited to the specific procedures developed by the university, and the students have to refer to the Department of Admission and Registration to view details.
