    • What a Mighty God We Serve! Psalm 46
    • The inspired author is seeking peace in a world that often provides none. “ The background of the psalm may well be God’s miraculous deliverance of Jerusalem from Sennacherib, the great Assyrian monarch. The psalm does not provide extensive evidence upon which to make a determination, but it does contain some hints.” (Eddie Cloer, Psalms 1-50 , pg. 635)
      • Written by “sons of Korah” (superscription)
      • Second Kings 18 and 19?
    • The P rotection from God
    • Protection (verses 1-3)
      • God is “abundantly available for help in tight places.”
      • God’s protection is AVAILABLE. (He is a very present help.)
      • God’s protection is DEPENDABLE.
      • God protects His own (Esther, Moses, Stephen, Paul).
      • No need to worry! (Philippians 4:6; Matthew 6:25,27,34; Luke 21:34).
    • The P aradise of God
    • Paradise (verses 4-5)
      • In the event that is life, we need a place of retreat.
      • World = raging oceans (v. 2); Where God is = calm river (v. 4-5)
      • This paradise is:
        • R eal (“There IS a river…”)
        • R efreshing (“…whose streams make glad the city of God”)
        • R edeeming (“God will help her when morning dawns”)
    • The P ower of God
    • Power (verses 6-8)
      • The power of God’s D ialect (word) (v. 6)
        • This “melting” is figurative, BUT
        • Second Peter 3:10—literal!
      • The power of God’s D efense (v. 7)
        • Deliverance (Psalm 18:50; Proverbs 21:31)
        • Innocence (Psalm 59:16-17)
        • Confidence (Exodus 19:5; Hebrews 12:22-24)
      • The power of God’s D oings (works) (v. 8)
        • First Chronicles 16:8-14; Psalm 28:5; Ephesians 1:18-20
        • “ To God be the glory, great things He hath done!”
    • The P eace of God
    • Peace (verse 9)
      • God’s people can have victory (cf. First Corinthians 15:54ff) and peace (Luke 2:14).
      • Different from what the world calls “peace.”
        • Not absence of conflict (Matthew 10:34ff)
      • Our victory is different, too.
      • The peace God provides involves
        • R elationship
        • R eliance
        • R est
    • The P raise of God
    • Praise (verses 10-11)
      • God WILL be exalted (verse 10).
      • When we think about the Protection, the Paradise, the Power and the Peace of God, we will want to Praise Him!
    • Truly, What a Mighty God We Serve!
